And the elements in golf don't do this????

Forgive me if I think the idea of inanimate objects actively exploiting weaknesses of players is beyond absurd. So far beyond absurd that they haven't even come up with a word for it.

Fair point. I was thinking about hitting.

I played tennis at a highly competitive level, and golf as a hobby, and golf is WAY more mentally challenging.

you have 1 tennis racquet vs 14 golf clubs.

you have a standard sized court vs varying lengths of holes

you are always playing on the same surface (in a match) vs a multitude of lies on a golf course

its not even close really

Name another sport where the elements play a major Factor like Golf.

Because you're not playing the other guy unless it's match play, and even then you can adjust your strategy based on his play. You're playing the course.

In tennis, your moves are generally reactionary and you don't have time to think

In golf, you have a 4-5 hour round where 95% of that time is thinking

This is the best argument for golf.

In what sport do you see player meltdowns most frequently?

It's tennis, right?

It does happen in golf, but I don't see it happening with the same frequency that it does in tennis.

just because there are some childish tennis players doesn't make the game more mentally challenging

golf - a couple of reasons:

1. in golf you have so much time to think about things - only about 30 seconds of a 4 hr round is actually spent hitting the ball.
2. other sports are reactionary. in golf, the ball is sitting there waiting on you to act on it.
3. in golf, you have no control over your other competitors.
4. in golf anything can happen. bad bounces, bad tee time, etc can all go into it.
5. in golf, you lose a hell of a lot more times than you win. in tennis, the top guys win 80% of the time. this makes it easier on the mind.

What are you referring to in meltdowns, guys acting like babies? In golf, the meltdowns are quieter andt happen all the time, and it's not always the guys being televised and in the lead, and it happens at every single level. Pressure starts building on guys throughout the leaderboard

14 golf clubs.

And you should know how and how far you hit each of those clubs. You'll argue that you only have one racquet and should know how you hit it. In tennis, the ball is moving at different speeds with different spins, and many times you are on a dead run while trying to hit it.

It's pretty obvious when it happens. I'm not talking about guys breaking down crying. Rather, you just see their games unravel. And it's obviously something in their head.

A lot more goes into it than that. Hate to break that news to you
