Was let go from previous company on Wed, got home took a breath and started sending out resumes like crazy (even filed for unemployment). Got a call Thursday to set up an interview (was supposed to call me back Thursday night but didnt) Got the call friday morning to interview at 1 that afternoon - went on the interview. Few days later received a job offer, better pay, better benefits, and better company (in my eyes).
I feel for those unemployed and looking for jobs, although its only been a week I know I never want to be in this position again. Also now I have a huge chip on my shoulder and cant wait to work for this new company and rock at the job to give my previous employer a big FU

After graduating in December, I was unemployed until 4 weeks ago. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Congrats on the short unemployment.

I was told I was being laid off two jobs ago about six months in advance. This was in 2010 when it was even more horrible than it is now. It took me three months just to get an interview. I got an offer 4 days before my termination date.
That's a scary situation to be in for sure. Glad it worked out in your favor

my company let go of an entire shift and they created a job for me to keep me around but I can read the writing on the wall, I'm sending out resumes like crazy trying to be proactive instead of reactive.

you're civil engineering, right?
I can't say my experience has been similar in meteorology. I've been looking since January (maybe not as furiously as your past week has been, as I have been employed the entire time) but I think my search will be coming to a close very soon.

Never burn a bridge you might have to cross over again in the future.

Nice. Love the attitude and no I'm not being cynical.

Looks like some of your luck rubbed off on me. Sent resumes out after being laid off yesterday and got a call yesterday afternoon. Just left the interview and should get an offer in a couple of hours. Will probably be lower pay but it's better than nothing. Not sure how I'm going to handle it if I get lowballed. Would still like to interview at a few more places but don't want to screw myself out of a job

not raining on everyone's parade ,but what line of work are you guys in? And to go into an interview one day to get an offer a few hours later or next day? That doesn't scream "I might be getting myself into another bad situation" to you? I know you have to put food on the table but damn, that soon after an interview would scare the hell out of me.

Construction. For my last job the interview process lasted 5 months. I was laid off after 2.5 months. It was for a large company. My two previous jobs I was hired on the spot, within two days of sending in my resume. Both of those lasted 3+ years. Both were small companies. I'm well qualified and am great at interviews.

Gotcha. Well in that case congrats. That's probably an industry that you typically get hired on the spot so no worries. Now if it was a sales or office job then I'd be a little worried!
