I was pretty dissapointed in this one as a young teen after playing FFX. I stopped playing about 1/3rd of the way in because the story just wasnt living up to FFX.

Well i decided to pull the ole ps2 out and give it another go however many years its been since its release.

Im really enjoying this go round for some reason. The story is still kind of meh but the battle and weapon system for this game is the best out of any ive played so far.

There are a wide variety of weapons that everyone can use and when combined with the gambits make a challenge on how to approach different bosses and enemies.

It is also one of the most wide open FF ive played. Tons of room to roam and farm. The hunts are awesome.

I never gave this game the credit it deserves. Excited I gave it another shot.

I liked the battle system when I played, but the damn story killed it for me. I heard it got a lot better beyond the point I stopped, but damn, it was so boring for a long while.

This is what I liked about it. You really have endless options with the gambit system.

I felt the same way when I quit, but the I found out about all the weapon combos and each weapon has a purpose and a benifit from poles, javalins, katanas, etc.

It really allows for you to do a lot of party customization and strategy. And the liscenses system is not far off from the sphere grid which I enjoyed. Tons of extra quest as well.

I forgot I had borrowed a friends strategy guide before I quit and its just kind of showed me that this game had more to offer.

FF12 was a game that I couldn't quite finish all at once. I kept going back to it over years and finally beat it. It doesn't help that you need quite a bit of grinding towards to the end to get $ so you can buy gear.

Still really enjoyed. It's so different from the rest of the series, and you can play a bunch of different ways.

This is what I've been saying since it came out. Story still didn't bother me that much.

Cool thing with the customization of this game, I saw on one of the gamefaq strategy guides somebody proposed job challenges. Like you can designate one of the classic FF jobs for a character and that limits what he can/can't open up on the license board. Seemed like a pretty cool thing to try.

This is what I hated about the game. But different strokes for different folks.

Its alot and can be overwhelming. I still love the traditional turn system as well.

It's a fun game but when I think FF I think of turn based battle with a good story. What ticked me off the most of ff 12 was that the main character really didn't fit into the story whatsoever.

Well, you're very wrong if you think Vaan is the main character. Ashe is and was the entire game.

Although, I'll point that FF12 is still turn based. It tries to give the illusion that it isn't with the free roam, but it is very much turn based.

Yeah and the gambits take off a lot of pressure I find. Set to heal characters when they reach a certain percentage takes some pressure off.

its because of all the newer battle systems are crap. You're comparing the past to the future when the past was the future..

Make a tank character by giving him a shield, then have your caster cast Lure on him as a priority. I found that made fights much more managable.

Ashe is a more important character but the story was told from Vaans point of view and you progressed through the game going through Vaans experiences which makes me believe he is the main character of that game.

Yea the game was awesome other than the story. I got pretty deep into it (thats what she said) but it just became too much of a grind for me and I never went back.

Vaan is definitely the main character in FF XII. I actually didn't mind the story, but I just couldn't get into the combat system. Felt way too much like FF XI combat.

If you look a bit of the history of the game, Basch and Ashe were originally supposed to be the protagnists of the game. Due to the industry here and in Japan, as well as success of the previous FFs, they made Vaan a primary character because young characters have done well for them in every previous game.

It's a shame really. That and all the events that led to Matsuno's (lead designer and original creator of the Ivalice world) departure from the company during the development of the game.

Ashe is still the main character.

I'm sorry Ashe is not the main character in the game. In the grand scheme of things she is a more important character but the game is focused on Vaans experiences through the story. This shouldn't even be up for debate.
