Kaman for 4/$36? :smh:

Depending on who they take at 10, you bring him back for one year at most. Even then I'd rather spend that on Asik.

This salary dump was done to rebuild around EG/Davis and have the chance to be very good 3 years from now. 30 year old, mediocre Kaman for 4/$36 doesn't fit.

Could signing DWill this yr and Howard next possibly happen?

They can't offer a max unless they amnesty Jack.

See my post above, but it doesn't make sense to go all in with DWill for a team that will sneak into the playoffs. The trade was made to be good not next year, but the years after.

Seems to be the case.

Also, and I'm not proposing this is any sort of realistic option... What if you get a call on draft day for Gordon? I mean, if Washington or Cleveland want him? You have to pull that trigger, right?

Can't happen. Gordon isn't under contract.

The only way a trade happens is after July 1.

What do you mean? Like trading Beal for Gordon in the hopes of being able to sign DWill too? No thanks. DWill has already let it be known that AD wouldn't have been enough to keep him in Jersey. He wants to win now, or at least reasonably soon. He's not waiting on a rebuild.

Ah yeah.. I guess his qualifying offer doesn't go through yet?

He has to sign the QO, and then only if he doesn't get the offer sheet he wants OR if he wants to be a FA at the end of the season.

I need to devote some more time to reading about all the exception rules and all that. But haven't really had the time at work today.

I think my sheets are probably more accurate today than last night.

I hope to keep up with all the transactions and track them.

Sure it does, since we can be pretty good this year while our picks develop, then great next season when they're experienced. We'd still have a good bit of money to spend next season and our corps players would have experience together. Plus, if you put off getting DWill this year to have a shite ton of space next season, then don't get any premiere FAs to come here in 2013, you're kind of fricked.

Is Jack eligible to be traded on draft night? For example, Boston wants to get rid of 1 of their first rounders for a proven vet. Is Jack worth that? Would we have to send some cash or a future pick?
And if we do trade Jack for a pick, that clears him from the books, correct?

And you're kind of fricked if you throw all your money at DWill, bank on Gordon being healthy and have to rely on young role players to win.

There's good and bad to both scenarios IMO.

I think the DWILL issue is less about money and more about the fact that he's just likely not coming here.

Yes maybe even both of the picks

No we could send 3 mil and Jack for both I think

Yeah, he can be traded, and Boston is a good bit under the cap so they can take JJ without sending anything back. No way they do that, though, given that they're almost certainly going into full blown rebuild mode.

Yes. Again, the team taking Jack can't have his contract put them over the cap if a straight pick for JJ trade were to happen. If it does put them over the cap, they need to send salary back (which would kind of defeat the purpose for us if we're trying to clear space for DWill) or they could use a trade exception if they have one to pair with the pick.
