Maybe not but throwing an inexpierenced QB into a high pressure situation like that is tough to do. Last time we didit, he crushed under the pressure and was never the same (Lee) If we had lost a game or two early on, I think we would have seen Mett, but the thing is we went 13-0. You dont change QBs if youre winning
This is the correct answer.
The only thing Les did wrong was not get Mett more garbage time play and not inserting Mett in the national championship bc it was glaringly obvious we wouldn't move the ball with JJ or JL.

Per Buck Belue (former UGA QB) & John Kincaid ( sports talk and Espn syndicated) on their Atlanta show last wk-"LSU will have the SEC's most formidable offense in '12".

There was a thread a while back that had links to some Hodson videos and I felt the same way when I saw them. I'd actually forgotten what it looked like to see a great quarterback leading LSU.

Can we just all agree to blast the sec rant when/if he goes for 250 against bama and/or auburn? I can barely go to that board now because of all the hate.
I would but the format on there is all weird now.
If he throws for 250 on Auburn, it's really not that big of a deal, other than the fact we'll win by 3+ TDs.
250 on Bama would be impressive.

Mettenberger has a great opportunity, and all signs indicate he knows as much. 2012 will be fun to watch.

I am hoping mett will do great. The real question I have is will Miles let the kid throw. With the stable of backs we have and Miles "we're coming right at you stop us if you dare" attitude (regardless of whether or not its working like with 7:40 left in the 4th losing 21-0) I dont even know if he will have a chance to show us what he really can do.

Mett will do great this year. I was cautiously optimistic before going to the Spring Game, but afterwards, I'm all like

Hit the nail on the head. Don't worry about people bashing you for saying it. They will all be agreeing with you after this coming season.
Been saying all along this guy is the real deal. Watch some of his JC film and you will be a believer.

Totally disagree. We went 13-0 with the qb rotation we used. I could easily see Mett having run into some maturity roadblocks vs Oregon, WV or at Bama. Nobody even brings this up if the NC debacle hadn't of happened. Not sure what could have been done to offset that. Seems like everything wearing p&g was going down that night. Should we have thrown him out there then? Maybe. But we quite possibly wouldn't have even been there if he had started the whole season.

Just because he is successful in 2012, doesnt mean he would have been successful in 2011

Newton was on his 3rd offense in as many years and that worked out ok for them. Russell Wilson learned a completely new offense at Wisconsin last year and did just fine. Don't give me that playbook crap.
Dont pretend cam wasnt a once in a lifetime talent. Not to mention he had the best OC in the country that could simplify and run an offense around his skill sets. We obviously dont have that. I think hes going to be better, but we arent going to air it out. All he needs to do is make the throws when called upon.

"I was on the field for the [national championship] game, and you could just tell even in the warmups that he might be special," one AFC general manager told the Sports Xchange recently. "The ball just jumped off his hand, his arm was so pure and easy, and he certainly has the size.
And LM left his adoptive son out there to sink the entire team like the millstone that he always was.
TeamSwag always defended JJ's substandard performance by trotting out 2008 JL, while many, if not most, of his biggest critics wanted to see what this kid could do with the keys to the Tiger offensive machine, other than driving it off in a ditch. Thankfully, we will finally get to see what he's got. We will never know if there was "fair" competition or not-surely someone with all these physical tools, that won a JC NC, could have delivered more of a passing threat than what we had at the end of the season.

It's apparent now that the competition was never fair. If it was based upon merit, Jefferson wouldn't have been the starter 1 game post Bama.

that's all he would have been asked to do last season, it wouldn't have been the pressure cooker some are acting like. He's a world's better passer than either guy from last season.

I hope we get our backup QBs ready to play, too. The last three years have a been painful reminder of how important backups are.

Look I am not saying it was a horrible move but it isn't a secret that he was better. I didn't realize how horrible Lee was until I watched the replays, and JJ had spots where he really shined but follewed by a bunch of sucky play. I find it impossible to believe that Mett wouldn't have done better. He would not have lost us any games we one imo.
And maybe it works out better in the end anyway. Maybe we would have still lost the NC and maybe this way we keep him for two more instead of one more.
I don't disagree with the decision. I don't think it was a horrible decision. Maybe it taught him to earn his way and we don't have trouble with a hot head next season. Not bashing the coaches but Mett was the best qb on the team last year.

1) He was learning his 3rd offense in 3 years. That is not easy
2) LSU went 13-0 and was crushing teams (other than Bama...and LSU beat them in BDS)
You're right.
But I think the OP meant, IF WE WWANTED TO WIN THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.

Man that article is some great news. Hopefully Mett will light it up and move up that chart even more. I do want to see him in action against some of the top SEC defenses though. I guess that will be the true test.
