I've been looking at who I think are locks on the roster for next season and thinking about possibilities. Just a couple of months ago we were thinking the Hornets were a three to four year project and, in all probability, a lottery team for one more season.

I think we were wrong. There is more talent on the team than sometimes it's given credit for. Absent catastrophic injury, I think this team is going to be very, very competitive next season. Demps and Monty want to win quickly (without blowing the future, of course), and they're going to move accordingly. We know we've got at least two very good young players coming in. I'm saying, the team makes the playoffs rather comfortably with a sixth or seven seed. Am I delusional?

i agree, and that scares me

we'll be like houston-ish. just good enough to get in the playoff discussion/playoffs, but not bad enough to increase our team talent

I would go with optimistic.

They will need about 50 wins to be the 6 or 7. This year they would have had 26 or so. Healthy Gordon and Davis will help but I doubt its a 20 game improvement unless EG becomes MJ and Davis is a rookie Duncan.

I've said for a while that I will be happy with contending for any playoff spot. A .500 or better record would be great progress. It takes time to build into a winner.

I know what you mean. But trades and free agency can help address the absence of a lottery pick. Just look at it this way. We've gotten our two lottery picks already. Let's see what moves the front office makes and how they manage the cap.

Agreed. But after the last few years, I'd rather be optimistic than the opposite.

Amen.

FYI- I wasn't trying to be the wet blanket. A lot to be excited about, especially once the errand happens. A new era of NO hoops

Next year may be a little goofy with roster moves, getting the fit, waiting for AD's pro-nuts to drop, etc. (MAY being the key word), but we are a playoff team each of the following seasons.

Next season we could be in the lottery, but that's it.

I agree. Hornets rise coincides with all the old powers taking a step back. OKC is the team to beat

I know. But there were others who thought it was a longer term project. The world doesn't resolve around you, son.

Yep, but if we are going to build a team to get past them than we need one of our later picks in the next year or two to hit like OKC got Ibaka at the 24th pick

The Clippers are not a good team. We might finish ahead of them if they don't make any offseason moves.

you use the term "team" loosely there the only thing team about them is their uniforms. outside of that, it's just street ball. they are a two man unit.
