Interested in getting one for windy days and light lures and such. Mostly for trout. Any good recomendations? I really have no clue about them.

What kinda budget?

Can't go wrong with Shimano. Symetre will run you $100.00 and is hard to beat. They also have the Sahara for around $60 and Sedona for $50.

I also have some Okuma's in the $40-50 range that have been solid and very rugged.

Get the 3000 size spool if you can or 2500 if you want something a little lighter.

Which ever you get I'd recommend a 7ft rod to pair it with.

Shimano Sedona 2500 + Cabelas Tourney Trail IM7 7' rod = great combo for < $100.

I knew a guide fairly well and that is all he ever bought. Pretty much all I ever bought as well.

I second (or third or fourth any shimano 2500 series) I've had several and my oldest one is just as good as my newest one. As long as you keep them clean, any reel will last but I've never had any issues for anything from specs to reds to a 35# ray.

I have a symtre that I like for the price but, I think some of the penn reels are more simple and rugged. The slammer, spin fisher, etc

Either way shimano or penn. I don't buy anything else..

I have heard some people say they've been happy with okumas, I'm tempted to buy one to have for fishing newbies on the boat

I've been looking into this as well, I'm leaning towards the Quantum Cabo w/ a Falcon Inshore once I have the cash

Have caught 1000+ trout with these the last 5 years. Just clean them good with fresh water when you're done.

I am going to pick up the Okuma V40 today at Bowies, I have a Shimano Scimitar rod that needs a new eye and it'll be paired with that.

Im on the shimano bandwagon too. My go to reel is a Saros 3000 on a wild green carrot six rod. I also have a 4000 on a med heavy terez waxwing. Great reels in my opinion. The Stradic is also nice, but not sure it is worth another 80 bucks.

I vote Penn Slammer 260 or 360. Great reel. Caught everything from trout and reds to a grouper and bonito.

They had the symetre reels at dicks for 59.99 Sunday when I was there. They must've been on sale
