There is more to baseball than just batting average. When you take fielding, speed, and power into the equation, I'd much rather Goldstein than Rhymes. Just IMO.

Rhymes is a good, not great hitter. Most his balls this year barely made it through the infield. He would be a good two-hole hitter. Calling Rhymes the best hitter in the country is way overblown. I could think of 2 maybe 3 hitters just on stony brook's team that I would rather have. The sad thing is, he is the best we got.
