Post Practice Report-2

So this is actually the third one I've done but the first was from the voluntary mini-camp. The last practice of OTA's was a calm enviornment mostly just them exercising and going through each phase of the field.

-The kicker situation is going to be an interesting battle in training camp this year. I have heard multiple times that they will only keep one throught the season so Kasay and Hartley will battle for that spot. Hartley looked stronger than ever on place kicking at practice and eh and Kasay chatted up after each of them kicked for about 20 minutes.
-The team looks sharp and comfortable on the field through all the practices so far and thats encouraging to see as there are a lot of new faces and that sometimes can be a difficult transition phase for these guys. The main people who have emerged as leades so far would be Jenkins and Lofton for the defense, and although both are normally known as quiet individuals Sproles and Grubbs have been very vocal on the offense.
Joe Vitt made a joke about the possibility of losing a practice beause of the Lofton and Daniel scummish from the previous practice saying if they got a day off he would bring them to the petting zoo.
The big story of the day was Nick Toon. He is making a case already to be the WR4 for th offense. He is very fast and is the second biggest WR on the team next to Colston. He has looked good in the gunner role on kickoffs and has showed extremely good skills on the deep ball. He has great pull away technique and knows how to create space down the field. He wil be an good asset for short yardage red zone plays.
-Spags commented that his main goal this year was to create more interceptions. After going back watching the tapes he counted 33 balls that were dropped that could have been picked off. The last time the Saints were in the plus side for turnovers was 06 when they won the SB. Spags made the comment of the day saying the NFC South still goes through Drew Brees and NOLA.
-Thomas Morstead has looked his best since becoming a pro. His leg strength is stunning to see up close and personal. He says his main goal this year is to get better on touchbacks. Morstead set an NFL record last year with 64 touchbacks.
Sorry that this post wasnt as detailed as some of the last but like I said it was more of a mellow setting and not much quick movements going on just really a walk through.

Can't wait to see defenses have to worry about Graham, Colston, and now Toon in the red zone. Not to mention Sproles in the flats.

You obviously don't know Grubbs very well. He's always been a very vocal leader on the OL in Baltimore.

for no 1st & 2nd Rd picks this draft class some very legitimate promise...
First, add Romeus after a red shirt year, the guy was a projected 1st Rder at one time. Yes, the injuries were serious. This guy is a player though. He might need Chris Ivory-like maintenance but similarly if he can just be in there 75% of the time he might end up a very valuable contributior- for a 7th Rder at that.
Hicks- what an uber typical Saints picks. All the tools, all the potential but needs some polishing. He wasn't coveted by LSU for nothing. Another that might take a year to really see full return on the investment but seems to be an excellent risk/reward decision.
Toon- yes, another player who was given 1st Rd type prospects before this year. This staff does great digging into who and what the player is beyond the what have you done for me lately highlights of the previous year. Another weapon for Breesus in the arsenal.
Corey White- nothing but great comments on him, I don't think Spags is one to lightly throw out "he has impressed me". Patrick & him development would be incredible in keeping the DB talent pool full.
Tiller & Marcel Jones- more players from sticking closely to your big board. Ya never know how they'll develop but they're building quite a history of mining mid to late round gems.
