I keep on forgetting that I'm not the only person in BR with a deep love and respect for most music that has ever been lumped into the "punk" genre. Good choices there, and I'd definitely be at all of those shows

Also good choices

No way I'd miss these guys play.
Some others for consideration:
William Fitzsimmons
Iron and Wine
And because I have to throw some hip-hop into the mix...

Anything will be better than the current mix of novelty acts, DJ's and dance parties.

If you book good touring acts, people will come.

I would love for BR to become another mecca for food, music, and art... But I'm not holding my breath. I can honestly say though, that
I will definitely show up.

This is a step in the right direction

I agree. With more one-off restaurants starting to pop-up, the new talent guy at the Varsity, and the art-walks downtown, the expansion and promotion of this fledgling "scene" is all that's needed to kick it into high gear. It will take time though, as well as interested people, to get the entire community to rally around it and make it stick.
BTW... Your Mogwai suggestion from last night has had me listening to them all morning.

Heard the new guy, AB, really likes the nose candy. Which will, admittedly ,lead to better acts.

What's the outlook on the Texas Country bands? I know they don't draw that well (other than PG and Ragweed

It's amazing what the Chris Maxwell can get at the Red Dragon. He has a great network of music lovers and he promotes the hell out of his shows. If he can people to play at that old building in the ghetto, it makes you wonder why some of these other places can't get better/more shows. Chelsea's, Red Star, and Spanish Moon do a good job, but there is no reason why the Varsity shouldn't own the music scene in BR. I think the potential is there, it just needs to be done right. A bigger venue downtown would be great too.

I think a big part of this is that most of these guys play here during the week and it's hard for working people to make a lot of these shows on these days. Now that I'm married with kids, I'm pretty much only going to be able to make shows on the weekend.

1.Gary Clark Jr.
2. The Sheepdogs
3. Grace Potter and the Nocturnals
4. Carolina Chocolate Drops
All should be doable. Will not respect new guy if none of these make an appearance within the next year. (will forgive if they are booked nola and can't legally play br)
