Interesting theory,
My thoughts were that you can't stop Shaq from getting the ball with one guy on him.

At the time it was illegal to double the guy w/o the ball.

My point is, that I think the Zone defense hurts many big men, and proficient post players.

I am reminded of this when watching guys like Howard, Tim Duncan, and LeBron James.

These guys' numbers would explode, if they played under the same rules Jordan did.

Not drawing a comparison, but Jordan was an amazing post player (even though people remember him otherwise). Jordan was a master of the post up fade away. In today's league, he would have two men on him the moment he got within 15 ft of the basket. He would still put up points, just not as many.

Ya but also hand checking wad legal, you could commit hard foul without suspensions so hits were a lot harder, and more so than ever superstars are protected

It was more to stop the players from clearing one side of the floor and one guy backing down. Mark Jackson was one of the biggest offfenders. Terrible to watch.

No, it was enacted to prevent great post players of inordinate size from getting the ball so easily in such great position.

The idea was to force more perimeter passing and jump shooting.

They were partially successful.

The downside was that great individual low-post performers can no longer totally dominate a game on offense.

Well, unless the defenders were just bad.

Imagine MJ, if you took away his post-game.
