What if there was a power play in the NBA?

Instead of a free throw and possession, and automatic ejection after two T's, why not just sit an offending player for a minute of regulation and have his team play shorthanded for that minute? If it's a flagrant-2, maybe a minute power play plus ejection. If a power play is implemented with less than a minute remaining in the game, then the offending team plays shorthanded for the rest of the game, and the other team gets a free throw and possession.
ETA: Double Technical = 4 on 4 for a minute.
I have a feeling that this is either a really great idea or a really stupid idea and nowhere in between.

um...really stupid...namely because you don't have someone blocking the rim at all times

so instead of punshing a team by letting the other team shoot uncontested, nearly automatic free throws with no time on the clock...
...you want to give the offending team a puncher's chance, by allowing them to play defense

A minute power play is going to basically amount to two 5-on-4 possessions. In other words, it's a gift-wrapped 4-0 run, unless the team sucks and can't capitalize. I'd find that interesting.

teams would destroy others if given 5 v 4 situations
plus, the short-handed team would just hold the ball for 4 seconds each time trying to eat clock
it's a lot harder to score in hockey PLUS you have a goalie. you can sit back on the PP and you're likely to be able to defense. this isn't possible in basketball

I am intrigued by the idea. Between the offensive advantage and the ability to trap on defense, I think teams could exploit this for 6-10 points per minute.

you couldnt do it for a timed period like 1 or 2 minutes... it would have to be possessions.
simple foul 2-3 posessions
tecnical 3-4
flagrant 4-5

Ok, better, more radical idea than the Power Play-
What if the team had the option of taking the free throws and the possession, OR they could get the ball and it would be make-it, take-it for them. As long as they scored on their possession after the foul, they would get the ball back again. Whatcha think?

It would change the game more than it would help clean up the game.
A 4 vs 5 in the NBA would give the opposing team a great advantage.
One example how would the inbound pass work? One person passing in to 3 people with 5 defenders available. Just getting the ball in would be a miracle, getting past half court would be another challenge. A well executed press would be hard to beat with a 4 vs 5.
Also I think you would start to see a lot of players flopping (see soccer) to try and turn a normal foul into a flagrant foul. Players would drive to the lane then fall to the ground in pain and act like they will never walk again and then come back into the game like nothing ever happened.
I like the idea but I am not sure how you could pull it off without completely changing the game up.

I think it's a great idea. I think there are many ways to improve the game.
I think the biggest problem in baseball/basketball is the power of the referee/umpire. They have more control of the outcome of the game than any player ever could.

I dk, I think NBA players are to good to give that kind of advantage to, they would essentially be able to get any shot they wanted, plus I'm sure they would press the team with only 4 players, it would turn into 8-0 runs all the time. It would just change the game to much, say you're down 2 with 50 seconds left and a guy gets a T, the other team basically wins the game

I've seen it at the college level. Before freshmen eligible D1 schools had freshman teams playing before the varsity game. But scholarship limits were in place so most schools had 4 scholarship freshmen and a couple of walk ons.
2 guys fouled out for Centenary with 3 minutes to play. So they played with 4 against 5 and still won the game. It was the most exciting JV game I've ever seen. The crowd went nuts.
