Miami could be willing to give Brees $100m/yr and fill up the rest of the roster with vet minimum guys, and it still wouldn't change the fact that Brees has an exclusive franchise tag which prohibits other teams from negotiating with Brees. Sure, they could tamper and make under the table offers, but we can apply the exclusive franchise tag again next season and be back to square one.
Strange that a Saints coach doesn't understand this. Maybe you could get your buddy to give him a refresher on how the exclusive tag works.

The difference is too small for them to let it interrupt OTA's coming up and offseason workouts for this team in this state IMO.
It is when you consider that's about 8 mil over the length of the contract. The wife won't be happy with leaving 8 mil on the table.
Saints already have enough bad PR. Pay the man 21 mil a year, get him signed, and get this over with.

If the Saints were actually crazy enough to let Brees walk, then I'll quietly put away all of my hats and shirts and wait until somebody with some brains is calling the shots down there.

Denver got PM signed, with all his issues, in a matter of wks if not less. DB's contract has been out there since last Aug at least & the Saints have had a good idea of his value/cost since then, with no PM type issues at all.
