The real question this trailer raises is.............where is the moat?

I mean, why make a high-concept, ambitious show with bad actors?
A.K.A. the "Falling Skies" or "Terra Nova" Effect.
But I didn't think it looked horrible. It almost looks like a newer version of Jericho, which I am 100% down with.

That preview looks pretty freaking awesome. Right up my alley.

"Terra Nova" Effect
Terra Nova had more problems than just bad acting.
That is probably one of the more disappointing shows to come along in a while given its premise and budget.

Already made a note to set the DVR.

That may be, but the acting (or lack thereof) was the worst part of it.
I loved the show though...it was entertaining as hell (even if most of the entertainment was from making fun of it).

There are roughly 90 guns for every american. If there are 300 million Americans when this happens, that means there are about 270 million firearms just laying around.

Thinking that there has to be some fricked up Abrams answer as to why machetes, bows, and muzzleloaders are being used.

I saw the preview for this yesterday. Abrams + Kripke + Favreau should deliver.

meh, I might be underestimating the crazies on one side of this argument..
ETA: But then again, in general I think the South would be a blood bath after something like this happened. Way to many hot heads with no reason to not go crazy with their 40 guns they have stockpiled.
Generally speaking it's not the guys with 40 guns you'd really have to worry about in the end of civilization scenario. They are generally going to be the most gun safety conscious and least likely to go nuts. It's the ghetto thugs with 1-2 guns that would be far more dangerous.
Not that there wouldn't crazy arse mountain man style miltia people popping up, but your typical person who owns 10-20 guns is just into hunting, fishing, and/or target shooting for the most part. They'd probably wind up helping protect farming establishments and small towns that developed after.
I will say one thing for sure, any of the large cities would be complete chaos in such a situation and I'd be getting the hell out of Phoenix ASAP (which would suck balls, cause it would take me one hell of a long time to bike across Texas).
And yes, given our back and forth it was kinda apparent most of your interaction with guns was via TV and movies.

Yeah, this would be my biggest worry about the show. With Abrams in charge the blackout would probably remain a big McGuffin for several seasons then wind up being completely retarded.

Yep.
I would have the family in truck making for the sticks as fast as possible.

Billion?
ETA: just realized I think you meant 90 firearms per 100 Americans.
But yeah.. take out children and elderly = more guns than there are hands to hold them.
Semi intelligent people can make their own bullets.. guns wouldn't be a problem.

No shite:
That math sure as hell isn't adding up. No way there are 90 guns for every one American. Not even close.

Solar flares or a massive EMP would definitely knock out a lot of electronics, but far from all. Any capacitor that devoid of residual electricity would be fine, including anthing shielded, like possibly vehicles parked in a metal building.
Most diesel engines built before 1995I or so are all mechanical, other than the starter. They would be fine.
The biggest surprise after a nuke attack, EMP, solar flare, asteroid, meteor or ZA would be how normal things were after. It's just so hard to do that much damage to our planet.
