Some classics? I'd say there are far more than a few here and there. They'd be much better off trying to explain it as the refineries no longer working without power and running out of gasoline.

Agreed, but you can still have advanced weapons and swordfights, which is the best of both worlds.

I deserve that Why am I even defending this show when it hasn't come out yet?

Only if you throw in super humans. Otherwise, they would all go down like the gun vs. swordfight in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Gustavo Fring is in it! I hope he's as badass as he was in Breaking Bad. Were they using flintlocks and crossbows? Did they shoot all of the bullets?

why would gas powered cars just shut off? Spark plugs
Wait, what? This show looks awesome. I'll definitely be watching. But honestly, I'm already fearful that it will be canned by NBC before any sort of resolution takes place.

I meant to put a question mark on that.. oh well, I'm just guessing any kind of harnessed electricity is instantly lost.. so even though a spark plug is technically just a spark.. it's still harnessed energy, and therefore is lost with this? ETA: Also starters are electrical... cellphones were dying, so batteries are dead, and so are alternators? Yeah, 99.999999999999% of all cars are gone. As for guns - I would almost gander to say they are hard to find since none would be produced after the "fall" .. and people would be killing and stealing to make sure they had the most of them as well.

Well, to my (limited) knowledge, spark plugs are only used to start cars. Once it is started, they are no longer needed. So those wouldn't make the car shut off. But I am retarded when it comes to mechanics and whatnot.

Yeah but, an alternator and battery frying would instantly stop everything.. so who knows. ETA: A spark plug fires ever round... for each piston, you are thinking the starter maybe?

WTF, how the hell would guns no longer be able to be produced after the fall? Guns predate electricity. Beyond that, this is the US, there are probably more guns than people. For every person that owns zero guns there is a person who owns 10+. Hell, my father could arm his entire subdivision back in AL. Gun don't exactly have a life expectancy.

Yeah but, who gives a shite if they predate electricity, how many guns today are made without electricity? Also, what was the last gun NOT made without a little bit of electricity!?! We are talking about going back to Civil War muskets and 0 ability to distribute or produce modern guns - because they are all made with electricity now. So no, the ones that do exist would get stockpiled by militias (because those that own, will get more, and horde) and there will be no new guns being made except for extremely old school rifles.

The colt revolver was made in the 1830s, Henry Rifles and Winchester rifles were Civil war era, it's not like all libraries have been made computerized, and all books disappeared. People would be able to retrofit and make things rather easily, it's not like the entire world is filled with idiots that are helpless without the internet. The government we have now can't even keep guns out of the hands of criminals, and you think some post apocalyptic militia with zero electric power to keep tabs on people would be able to? It would take something much more major than simply losing electric power to have a major portion of the population not have access to guns.

There should be more than enough guns to go around, and ammo is where you would run into trouble.. but that isn't terribly hard to make ><

Yeah, ammo is easy as hell if you have the right setup. And almost any hardcore NRA guy will probably have his own loading desk setup. Not a problem at all to mold and load your own bullets without electricity, particularly revolver loads like .44, .38, and .357 (those are the main ones I have personal experience doing growing up, not sure on 9 mm).

meh, I might be underestimating the crazies on one side of this argument.. but you are underestimating the laziness of the other side.. or those like me that would just go out into the woods and build a farm or something and live out my life in solitude. Screw guns.. I wouldn't even begin to know how to make one.. I might make a crossbow and steal a gun every once in awhile if some stupid people came along however. ETA: But then again, in general I think the South would be a blood bath after something like this happened. Way to many hot heads with no reason to not go crazy with their 40 guns they have stockpiled.

In a situation like that, all available ammunition would be quickly hoarded. Once you can't get ammo, all the glocks in the world aren't going to do you much good.

There are roughly 90 guns for every 100 americans. If there are 300 million Americans when this happens, that means there are about 270 million firearms just laying around. And God knows how much ammo. I'm Thinking that there has to be some fricked up Abrams answer as to why machetes, bows, and muzzleloaders are being used.

Damn, super unimpressed with that trailer. They have an excellent premise, but that's it. Oh, and Giancarlo Esposito. But I just can't watch something with acting as bad as that seemed to have. I mean, why make a high-concept, ambitious show with bad actors? What's the point? The reason Lost was so successful was because they mixed an excellent premise with great characters played by actors who could sell it. There's no way to cover up bad characters or actors.
