the rangers are like the braves of the 90s except polar opposites in terms of pitching to hitting.

i wouldn't mind seeing them win one if the braves don't

Philly has the only staff in baseball capable of keeping this Rangers lineup in check. Too bad they have zero hitting and will probably miss the playoffs because of it. I have no idea why they didn't make a harder run at Beltran.

They also have the highest runs per game average of all MLB teams by over 2 runs per game

maybe i dont understand this stat.. they have played the same amount of games as the Rangers, and have 18 less runs scored than the Rangers

Didn't they just get swept by the Braves in dominating fashion??

Braves won the first game in 12 innings. Either way the Cardinals haven't come close to peaking yet. Berkman and Craig are just coming back, Wainwright is still knocking off the rust and Carpenter won't be back until June of July

Probably because they have too much money into their pitching. I read something where they were fairly maxed out on their payroll.

They have good starting pitching. 1 through 5...few teams have better.

homer statement of the day right here.

Darvish: 2.84
Feliz: 3.32
Lewis: 3.69
Holland: 3.86
Harrison: 5.23

The Cubs have a better 1/2/3 punch than that.

I had the exact same thought process.

But if they can sneak in they could be trouble similar to the Giants in 2010.

So the Giants, Nationals and Cardinals (all with better pitching numbers than the Phillies) couldn't?

Please stop buying into the hype that your daddy ESPN is shoving down your throat.

Difference is the Giants had a lights out bullpen the Phillies don't

Yep. In fact, pretty sure the Phillies have the worst bullpen in all of baseball.

LOL at the Nationals and the Giants rotation with a struggling Lincecum holding the Rangers offense in check. Have you looked at the schedule the Nationals have played this season? They've played only two series against teams with above-average offenses this season and haven't any played a single game against the Braves or Cardinals. There isn't a single team they've played who has a lineup that is in the same league as Texas. Also, their rotation is young as hell. We have no idea how well they would react to the pressure in the playoffs. It's a whole different beast.

I'll take the Phillies' rotation over the Nationals in the playoffs.

I remember hearing that in 2010.

The phillies might have themselves a mini fire sale by the trade deadline.

The Rangers actually remind me more of the late '90s Indians. Mid '90s Albert Belle was basically what Josh Hamilton is now. Those Cleveland teams actually had very good pitching in the regular season but they just didn't have the elite guys at the top of the rotation to help them get them over the hump in the playoffs.

if I'm not mistaken, the rangers have the best team ERA in the league

are they the Buffalo Bills of the MLB?

One difference is that the Bills weren't expected to win. Were they ever favored in a Superbowl? The Rangers were picked by most to win the last two once they got to the WS. I don't think anyone thought the Bills would beat the Cowboys, and I'm too young to remember the general feel for the Giants and Skins Superbowls. If the Rangers lose in the WS again, then they have underachieved and could be considered choke artists. I just want to forget Game 6

They're not even going to win the Lone Star Series this weekend!

I wouldn't count out the cards again.

Besides, the Rangers may have the ATL syndrome in that they turn off the intensity in September because they're so far ahead and then can't get it turned back up again in October.

You are mistaken. They are currently ranked 5th. And if not for their bullpen they'd probably be 10th or worse. I posted their starting rotations eras earlier.. Not that impressive.
