Do you think it would be worth over paying for him? I kind of would like to make the Pacers pay big money at least.

I would have no problem with the Hornets paying Gordon and Hibbert huge contracts to make them our core.

Well I don't think he is worth the max, but he is definitely worth big money. I think it is worth paying extra because of his current skills, his potential, we are in a small market, and true big men are hard to find.

I like him, but there's no way he's worth paying whatever he gets PLUS amnestying Okafor, which will be necessary to afford him. Benson is rich as frick, but he's not exactly lighting cigars with ~$10m or so, the cost of amnestying Oak after he signs a deal elsewhere.

Pacers will match anything.

If that's the case, then we should offer a max deal. Good luck stealing Gordon after that. I don't think he gets a max, though.

If we offered him a max deal, they wouldn't match and would steal Gordon.

Agreed, that's why I would avoid going after any Pacer players, including if they were willing to do a Granger for the Minny pick type deal. At least until Gordon is locked up...

The idea was the team uses the amnesty on Okafor and then locked up both Gordon and Hibbert.

Gordon is not going anywhere this offseason. He will most likely get a close to max deal (somewhere in second tier).

That's scary to me. He needs to show that he can hold up for a full season before he gets that kind of money.

I like Hibbert, but I don't like the idea of overpaying for him. If we're going to overpay a C then we should keep Okafor.

Those two with somebody like Robinson would make for a hell of a team. I wish this was a possibility.

I don't see Indiana letting him go though. There are too few true big men in the league right now. And he's pretty young. (25 years old)

He played in 78 games his rookie season. I really think his career will mirror KMart/DWade where some year's he'll play 70+ games and some he'll play 50-60. The amount of games missed this year definitely deserve an asterisk because of the tank. I'm convinced that in a non tank year rather than 6 weeks of bed rest and another 6 weeks of scope recovery you'd have had just 2 - 3 weeks of scope recovery. Meaning he misses 10 - 15 games rather than 59.

I know the front office knows a lot more about the situation than I do, and I suspect they'll have plenty of doctors checking him out, so I assume they'll make the right decision. I can say I trust this FO much more than previous ones.

I'm just hoping he doesn't turn into another Mashburn (which I don't think he will).

That's being very optimistic. If we were having a good season, he may have missed 35-40 instead of 59, but not only 10-15. He has missed 107 games in his 4 year career. At some point, teams are only going to be willing to pay on production rather than potential. Unfortunately, we have to pay on potential, so hopefully his injured ways stop.

yea and it's a condensed season so in a normal season he would've missed less games by sitting out the same amount of time.

I'll just keep saying this. We already have a 7 footer that averages 10 points a game in Jason Smith. Why not try him out as the starter and give him some more minutes. He'll end up being a 12/8/2bbg guy at 2.5 million a year. Why pay Hibbert, Hawes or McGee 12-14 million a year for the same numbers?
