No, I don't think you do this week in and out or on and off. I don't even think you eat out at nice restaurants often at all. Not a slight toward you. I simply don't think you do.

i don't own one, but i'm sure as hell not cheap enough or idiotic enough to bring food or drink to a restaurant. This holds true especially if the establishment is owned by the chef.
Lets play this out. Hi Mr. Lagasse..i don't think your cake is up to par so i'm bringing my own to your fine establishment. Oh, and i expect to get the upmost in fine service while i'm eating my own cake, free of charge of course.

I may bring a really special bottle to dinner. However, I call in advance with my reservation and also make sure it isn't on their wine list and inquire about the corking fee. I usually offer a taste to the onsite sommelier/manager/server because if I'm bringing in a bottle, it should be something really special that I would like them to taste as well. I also usually purchase a round or two of beverages or buy a starter bottle of wine. Have tons of regulars that do the same and honestly as long as I'm asked beforehand I can be convinced to wave the nominal fee on certain things. I would rather have a happy customer that is understanding any day of the week, even if they are the rarely occasional diner.

I have brought wine to dinner before and have paid the cork fee without a problem and have bought bottles of wine from the restaurants. Like you I have also usually purchased additional drinks and appetizers etc.

seriously. If you cannot fathom the idea that bringing something to eat or drink to an establishment is an insult, no matter what anyone tells you then so be it. I will tell you this though. IF i were the chef/owner of a fine dining place(read, not a chain), and you wanted to bring food in i would turn your business away. IF you wanted a special bottle of wine, you called and i couldn't provide it for you, i would make an exception, but only if you called first.

Like I said I was bring a cake not a 3 course dinner. Maybe when me and a couple of the TD posters go to Ruth's Chris next week you can bring the lettuce and dressing for a salad. I am bring the steak and someone else is bring the asparagus and potatoes.

Just wondering, because you say it as if it's universally accepted to bring dessert to restaurant that offers a wide variety of home made desserts.
