Dempsey would've had a shot at PFA player of the year if the voting were at the end of the year. He might still take the football writers award or some accolade.

I'd say it's between Dempsey, Mata and Toure.

Y'all gots no love for anything but attacking mids.

Arteta averages an EPL leading 76.9 passes per game (including the game he went off injured after 8 minutes). 90.8% pass completion rate. 2.1 key passes per game. As many goals as Silva despite playing deeper. Responsible for as many goals as Modric, despite playing deeper (and less games than both). And most telling of all perhaps, Arsenal have not won without him.

Solid info right there. Vote switched.

Cabaye is another who should be mentioned. Had a great year. Tied for lead in tackles.

Alex Song. One of the best final balls in the PL, along with being a superb DM. People get angry at him for being out of position, but I think he's instructed to win the ball high up the field. He doesn't have the mobility or dribbling ability of a Yaya Toure, but he has a better passing range, and a good sense for a through ball.

Arteta is a great player. I still would rather Yaya.

he's not even the best mid on his team...Silva is...and in the EPL this season IMO

Scott Parker may not be the flashiest midfielder but he certainly does what the team needs him too.

Most consistent was dempsey. He pretty much carried that team this season. Silva, mata, modric, et al are great midfielders and had great runs of form at some point this season, but week in and week out I think dempsey did the best job.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. Dempsey is one of my favorite players in the game because my homerism mixes well with the fact that he's just 1776'ing the frick out the EPL right now. I'd put Yaya Toure and Mata in the mix, and honestly, Silva should be in the conversation had he not, as mentioned, has spurts of disappearing.

I didn't say he was, but still debatable. Different styles.

He's more comparable to Arteta though. If I wan't an adaptable/defensive mid, I'm going Arteta/Yaya.

If I wan't a creative/attacking mid I'm going Silva/Mata.

If I want a scoring mid I'm going Dempsey.

If I'm going for a central mid I'm picking Yaya no doubt.

Cheik has had a decent season though. A little reckless for my tastes.

It's tough to pick considering the vast array of midfielders mentioned in this thread and the different formations teams play.

It really is. Arteta and Yaya have had extremely similar seasons though (factoring in all competitions):

Average passes per game
Arteta - 71.2
Yaya - 76.4

Pass completion %
Arteta - 88.9%
Yaya - 89.8%

Key passes per game
Arteta - 1.4
Yaya - 1.5

Total assists
Arteta - 2
Yaya - 5

Goals

Arteta - 7
Yaya - 7

Why not put forth a starting 4 then? At least you could get it down to something like 1 left, 1 right, 1 attacking, and 1 holding/def mid.

All I know for certain is that I would have Dempsey and Toure(or Arteta, trying not to be a homer) as my center mids. And I'm not sure if this is correct but Goal.com shows Silva out right.. and I'd have Bale on the left.
