Are you kidding? Tywin Lannister has Gregor Clegane as his dog. He unleashed an 8 foot tall psychopath in the riverlands with the sole purpose of raping, killing, and burning. Remember the first season, when that peasant came to King's Landing and said the children were burned to death and the women raped and murdered? Yeah that was on Tywin's orders.
That was nothing compared to what he did to Daenerys' family when they over threw the mad king.

Yep. Came in like a coward, sacked the city, had small children killed in brutal fashion in front of "their" mother, and then "their" mother was raped (while covered in "her" childrens brains) before she was killed too. I could go on, but I might spoil things for later. There is NOTHING nice about Tywin Lannister, even his kids are monsters.

That's how medieval warfare was practiced. The Starks are 20th Century beings living in barbaric times. That's why I think they will ultimately lose the war against the Lannisters because they foolishly think war should have rules, and knights should have honor and chivalry in battle. I have never read the books so I don't know how things will play out, but for better or for worse, I think Tywin Lannister will end up winning the war because he will be willing to go the extra mile, something the Starks will never be able to fathom doing.

That doesn't make it ok or him reasonable. It makes him the villain, leading an army of murdering psychopaths.

I don't see him as the villain. I see Joffrey and his mother Cersei as the true villains in the War of the Five Kings. And if the Starks and Baratheons disapproved of the Lannisters completely wiping out the Targaryens why the hell did they not do something about it? Because Robert Baratheon agreed with what had happened and Ned Stark wasn't about to go against his best friend who had just won a war. Everyone on the winning side of that war was complicit in the murder of the Targaryen children.

If you've read the books and feel this way, I guess I can't change your mind. If you haven't and are just watching the show, stay tuned.

Tyrion and Eddard seem to be portrayed as total opposites.
I would have liked Ned to stick around in the series longer because Sean Bean was perfect for the role.

Joffrey is his grandson, not nephew.

Well both want to do what is right for the people and both are good leaders.
Tyrion is a great Hand of the King, he gets the blame for all the troubles in Kings Landing (much of which is left out of the show, like food running out) But he wants to save the realm and keep the order. He sees Joffery's killing of Ned Stark to be the cause of the current war, and he hates the King, but he is still a Lannister.
Eddard, is a warrior, a leader of men, an inspiring figure. Though he has flaws, when he lets his "Nothern Values" get in the way of leadership. He always did what is right and just, even at the peril of his people or Kingdom.
( remember how got word of Wights in the first chapter of the book and first episode of season one.)
Though he took his duties as warden of the north, and killed the nights-watch escapee.
Ned would have and could have been a good King, but he would have needed a hand like Tyrion to help him.
I think people's respects for Dinklage and his Tyrion role will grow as this season passes on, as his character becomes even more important in the Game of Thrones.
The role of Edard plays a central figure in showing the reader and the viewer that no character is safe from death, and in that things he did in his life will have ramifications through the struggle.

It was done, by the time they got to King's Landing the Lannisters had wiped out the Targaryens clan, minus three.
Based on Ned's conversation with Jamie in front of the Iron Throne and Jon Snow's talk with Aemon Targaryen. I don't agree with your premise that the Starks, Baratheons; or Arryns approved of what happened.

Robert wanted the Targayens dead..
He sent people to Essos to kill her and to spy on her.
It is known.

There is a difference between killing a queen of an opposing army and murdering babies while they sleep. Even the Imp had a problem with killing of babies.

Right but for Roberts claim to be just the Targs had to go.
If the people of Westeros knew that Dany and Viserys were alive the Baratheon Upsurper would have had a harder time holding the realm.
