I planted cilantro for the first time last spring. It goes to seed and goes away shortly after maturity. It didn't come back in the fall, but it did this spring. Fall planting might work better, but it just doesn't last like parsley does. My parsley came back this spring as well. It never totally died up, but it's nice and full. However, I need to trim it up more often.
