We really need to invent warp capability.

where do you guys get your education....22 light years is 22 years @ the speed of light or the distance a photon of light travels in the length of time equal to 22 years. out of what arse did you pull 1.54 days.
I believe this is correct. Speed of light is 186,000 miles per second. It would take 22 years to the occupants of the ship.

If traveling at a constant acceleration of 1G, it would only take 6 years and a few months to cover 22 light years, from the ship's reference. If on a round trip, the astronauts would arrive back in our system having aged only 12-13 years but would find 44 years have passed on Earth.

This basically correct. Dont worry if you dont understand why but this has alot to do with relativity.

I was assuming a constant speed (going from zero to "c") in a split second and continuing to travel at that speed until they got there. I know they would have to slowly accelerate to the speed of light though.

The C is a constant. It's a mass-energy equivalence. It doesn't support the statement.

You would have to double that time in order to actually stop at the planet though, correct?

No, that travel time includes deceleration. ETA: i didn't do the math myself, i used an online calculator LINK

To people who don't know what lightyears means: A lightyear is the distance light travels in one earth year, i.e. 186,000 miles per second for a grand total distance of 5.67648^12 miles. Second of all the people who would be traveling at such speeds would experience time dilation, thus creating the perception that time was moving slower than it actually was, though, on a biological scale this would be true and the bodies would age only a number of years perhaps

Has anyone ever done testing on the aging effect on living cells experiencing high speeds that would cause slowing of time? Do they age slower on the relative time or the time they are experiencing?

They do it with atoms and their half lives are extended beyond what it should be.
