And how good could he have been at LSU?
I was too young to really remember that era and all this Livingston talk has me curious
Talk to me, old folks

At 6'4 200, dude was a beast! Could handle the rock, could shoot the lights out. So sad that he blew his knee out in a pick up game. Could have been one of the best all time. 2 Time National Player of the Year in HS, that should sum it up

I saw him play once in HS. THey played East Jefferson, which was Neil Reid's team(the guy Bobby Knight ended up choking at Indiana). Reid was a stud himself. I don't even remember who won, I think Newman did. I just remember Livingston had a dunk fest. He was unstoppable. Still the best player Ive ever seen his HS.

Randy Livingston was the top HS player in the nation that year, and perhaps one of the best of his generation. Damn knee injuries

He was National Player of the Year... Twice. Probably the best high school player ever.

Incredible... He was so god damn quick he tore his own knees up.

I was about a year younger than Livingston. When we were 15 we played in an all-star baseball tournament in NOLA and the players would stay with host families. A few guys on our team stayed with Peyton Manning. We were like, "That's kind of cool, staying with Archie Manning and all." But then the players showed up to one of our games and said, "Guess who came over to shoot basketball with us today, Randy Livingston." Then we were all like, "That's awesome! Ya'll got to play basketball with Randy Livingston." Yeah, Randy was kind of a big deal.

If he didn't rip up his knee, big time NBA player.
He was that good.
He was that good.

Easily the best I've ever seen.

I sincerely believe he would have led us to at least one final, probably more.
He was big. He made everyone around him, better. He knew what he wanted to do and did it. Coach on the court, too.
And when we needed a basket, he could drive to the basket. Even hurt, he could take over a game. We could have rode his back to a NCAA championship, imv.

1991 State Semi-finals, Block vs Newman. I had a great seat as a sophmore on the bench for Block. As the point guard, he was the center for the tip-off. Tipped it to Cooper Manning who took three dribbles and tossed an alley-oop from just inside half court which Randy caught backwards. Shaq was in the stands behind the bench and just stood up and went ballistic cheering. Randy scored at will in the paint, hit threes from 25ft, and threw passes with a court sense you can't teach. Finished his night with 40something points. Was a 15 yr. old sophmore at the time. If there was a high school kid better, I haven't seen it.

He was a flat out baller. I use to work with his mom at Charity Hospital and we would take off early to go watch him play. Peyton Manning was his back up in Basketball and he was Peyton's back up in football. Both were very athletic.
Damn this swipe.

I saw Newman in the state finals. He was good but it was 2A and Peyton Manning was the 2nd best player on the team.

I played against him, I was a senior he was a soph. It was like we were all playing in slow motion around him, and yes he did dunk over me.....very humbling... He also had Cooper Manning on his team.. also very good

There was an article about Randy in GQ magazine a number of years ago basically calling him the best that never was....obviously this is me paraphrasing and using the Marcus Dupree story title...
Basically the author talked about what Randy had gone through with injuries and how it has killed his career. The author spoke of seeing him at a camp when he was in high schooll and that he had beaten jerry stackhouse so bad the entire camp that many of the scouts left wondering if stackhouse could play at all
The dude was great. We just never got to experience it

Chris Jackson was a better high school player and I saw both play multiple times in high school. That's not a knock on Randy, because Chris is the best player I've ever seen on the high school and college level.

I played against him. He was smooth, athletic, could shoot, and most importantly, he played the game the RIGHT WAY. I see him possibly having had a career like a Kevin Johnson.
