My bet is socioeconomics plays a bigger role than religion. Although socioeconomics may be closely related to religion.

Many black females view having a first child while unmarried as the first step in their career path. It triggers public assistance which is the lifestyle they are accustomed to. Having a child is not an accident. It is a planned event.

I'm not suggesting that the black females do not intend to work. They just know that the child will make them eligible for food stamps, Section 8 housing assistance, Medicaid and other forms of assistance that afford the lifestyle they are familiar with.

First, what data is being used to measure religiosity for this study? There are many varying sources and many measures. Does the data look to a simply belief, or participation? Does it look at specific sect?

Which one are you or the original author cherrypicking?

Oh my word, teenagers have sex even when they are raised in religious households. Damn, who knew.

Before you can fix a problem, you have to actually know what the problem is. Ignoring possible factors because you don't feel they're PC to talk about doesn't do much to increase the likelihood of solving any particular problem.

Looks like the problem is teens having babies.

Maybe we should tell kids about sex, sex education, condoms, birth control, and how to have sex without having children.

Or.

We could keep saying "don't do it."

Is the problem uniform across races? Is the problem even caused by the same factors across races? IE, are the reasons whites get pregnant as younger teens the same as the reasons that blacks do so? Are the attitudes the same?

You want the "one size" answer of basically blaming religion but that's just silly. It seems readily obvious that this isn't a "one size" problem.

Do you REALLY think that's the problem? Across the board?

Cmon man. You need to step away from the keyboard a bit if you're trying to sell that.

I didn't blame religion.

I blamed ignorance.

LA and TX have sex ed. . .and are 2 of the biggest condom consumers.

In either case, it's kind of head in the sand to not acknowledge the racial component to teen pregnancy.

There is a difference between placing ALL blame on that and acknowledging it.

I think the reasons for girls making these poor decisions vary widely and where there are similarities, they are largely along racial lines.

IE, white girls share many of the same reasons. Black girls share many of the same reasons as other blacks. Hispanic girls etc etc.

And I'm sorry. What "ignorance" do you speak of. Pretty much 100% of the people I know who got pregnant as teens KNEW they could get pregnant and KNEW how to avoid it.

They simply CHOSE not to.

So, what "ignorance" are you speaking of?

Really. Do people still believe there are wide swaths of teenagers who don't know they can get pregnant and how to avoid it if they'd like? I mean really?

Again. Are you truly asserting that you think that there are significant numbers of sexual age teens who are not aware they can get pregnant or how to avoid it?

Cmon. Really?

You know all the dumbasses you know now? They used to be adolescents, and were probably even more incompetent then.

Yup.

If that's not accurate, then why are comprehensive sex education courses more successful in preventing teen pregnancy than abstinence only programs?

(citation in the pdf link above).

I think people are asserting things that the facts don't actually support. That's why.

As for the idea that there are wide numbers of teens that are as ignorant as you speak of.

Sorry. What the frick are you? 90 years old?

They most certainly know they can get pregnant and how to avoid it with exceedingly rare exception.

Ah. So we're down to the "those damned doctors with their damned degrees don't know what they're talking about" defense.

Your inability to refute the data makes the rest of this conversation irrelevant.

You know, you're right.

Let's just blame black people.

Do we even know if the relevant states have abstinence only sex education? Yet another thing about this "study" that is lacking.
