Pregnancy rates would be almost impossible to determine accurately.

Is it possible to get reasonably accurate pregnancy rates?

In the original thread, I quoted this from the article:
quote:
The 2009 study posited that attitudes toward contraception play a significant role, noting that "religious communities in the U.S. are more successful in discouraging the use of contraception among their teenagers than they are in discouraging sexual intercourse itself."

So why did you need to start a NEW thread to make a point you made in the ORIGINAL thread?

Just go ahead and delete this thread since it's clear that you don't want this debated or discussed. You would prefer that most people not see the new information and that they just go on thinking I'm a moron.

This study found an association: Table 3.4 Rates of pregnancy, birth and abortion among women aged 15–19, by state of residence, according to race and ethnicity, 2005 LINK

there is little association between a state's teen birthrate and the racial breakdown of its population. When my colleague Charlotta Mellander ran the correlations for race, she found was no statistically significant association between teen birthrates and the Hispanic share of a state population.
The above quote does not appear to be the case if the following is true. LINK
quote:
Texas is home to approximately 9 million Latinos comprising 37% of the population.
quote:
Texas, which has the 4th highest teen pregnancy rate in the nation (in women aged 15-19, the pregnancy rate in Texas is 88 per 1000 vs. 70 per 1000 in the U.S.).9 In 2005, more than 73,000 girls aged 15-19 years got pregnant in Texas, and 58% (42,000) were Latina teens.9 More than half of all Latina girls experience a pregnancy before they turn twenty years of age.10 It is projected that by 2015 the Texas teen pregnancy rate will increase by 13%, resulting in a projected teen pregnancy rate of 127 per 1000 Texas women aged 15-19 years.11 This increase is primarily due to the changing demographics and projected growth in the number of Latino adolescents in Texas.
37% of the population in Texas being responsible for 58% of the teen pregnancy does not make for "an association between a state's teen birthrate and the racial breakdown of its population"? I posted the same information in your thread yesterday (along with a more comprehensive study).

How do Kentucky and Montana have negative numbers in that chart?

Stop acting like a little girl. There's nothing in this thread that differs from your original thread. What makes you so special that you get to break any rule you feel like breaking? What makes you think you don't have to follow board rules like everyone else?

I like L.A. a lot, but I kinda get that vibe from this thread.

No kidding. L.A. is becoming really pushy on the religion issue lately. I guess it's conform to some pro-religion ideal of his or get harassed by him.

Is it because using pregnancy rates would have destroyed your argument? Not saying that no possible correlation is shown between some southern ("bible belt") states and higher pregnancy rates, but there are enough other states in the mix to severely limit any correlation:
quote:
U.S. total 70 D.C. 165 New Mexico 93 Nevada 90 Arizona 89 Texas 88 Mississippi 85 Delaware 83 Arkansas 80 Georgia 80 S. Carolina 79 Tennessee 79 Florida 77 New York 77 N. My point is that he could have added this to the old thread, instead of starting a new one. Check the FAQ's about starting new threads if you have any questions about that. AT NO POINT WHATSOEVER DID I DISCOURAGE DEBATE ON THIS TOPIC.

I'm not saying you're wrong, and I even admitted that the abortion argument made in the other thread was a good argument. All I'm asking is for you to run some numbers. Let's see a correlation.

"Pregnancy rates in parentheses include abortions obtained by Hispanic women; in these states, =10% of births to white women 15–19 were to Hispanics."
