re: Game of Thrones homosexual question for book readers?

quote:

Neither should really be "offensive".

Who's to say what somebody else should or shouldn't b offended by?

quote:

HBO couldn't imply it the way it was done on paper.

Couldn't or simply choose not to.

It is important to the story and who Renly is, HBO couldn't imply it the way it was done on paper.
Loras and Renly's relationship is obviously important.

Very good. That answers my question and I appreciate it. If it was necessary it should be included.

A lot of people in this board need to grow up and quit being so homophobic. It's 2012 folks.

I don't have a problem with the scene if it was in the books and not added for other reasons. Whether it is right or wrong that people don't like it surely you recognize that a great number of people do not want to see such a thing and HBO is still selling a product. It makes no sense to me to include homosexual scenes,if they are not necessary, as I believe it reduces the number of viewers and even subscribers.

You know what agenda it is. Hetero sex is commonly accepted by society and does not create the same shock value of homosexual scenes displayed on television. I did not create this societal standard I simply comented on it.

It is also rather obvious that HBO has many shows that contain blatant homosexual scenes that were not present in the books the shows were developed from. I don't know about you but if the same thing happens several times on one network it seems to me that at least a trend must be recognized.

If you consider rational realists to be weirdos I guess I fit that bill.

I'm fairly sure that gays have sex IRL. Showing it is not an agenda. Was the scene of Ros going to town on the whore in front of Baelish promoting an agenda too? Why didnt you get offended by/complain about that? FTR...i dont wanna see two guys banging, I'm very uncomfortable watching it. I thought the sound FX guys got pretty gratuitous with blowjob scene with Renly and Loras. The last episode, i kept thinking, " pleas dont show them frick, please don't show them frick..."

They could "suggest" the sex, but that wouldn't fit with the rest of the show, GoT is gonna fricking show you everything no matter how dirty...violence, sex, kids being murdered.

You don't sound like a realist, you sound like an oversensitive homophobe.

People shouldn't be offended by two people in love with each other. Be it a mixed race couple, or gays.
I get that people are offended, but only because they are clinging to archaic values. If you know you are not gay, and you are comfortable with yourself and your sexuality, why do you really care how someone else expresses theirs?

It is actually a good plot point that tells you allot about Remly and says allot about the Brienne and Sansa.

Yes it is. Sure gays have sex IRL but traditionally such behavior has been looked down upon as perverted and deviant. Portraying it on tv and getting everyone to be ok with it is part of the agenda to normalize such behavior.

It is human nature to look down upon those that inhabit the fringes of society and don't fit within the fold. Is it wrong? Probably but it is also the way it has always been and the way it will always be. I am not arrogant enough to believe I will change human nature and I simply recognize that most people do not want to see two men porking on television.

I am glad it was included if it is important to the storyline. I don't enjoy watching such scenes but I will if they are necessary to move the story along.

The great think about belief is that something does not have to be true for one to believe it.

Wow

Who are they trying to normalize it for? Are Benioff and Weiss trying to convince the fans of the show to have gay sex?

Truer words have rarely been written and I am wrong fairly often and that is why I strive to avoid making definitive statements and always try to make everyone aware that I could be wrong.

I believe what he wrote to be true. You must admit that show like True Blood and 6 Feet Under fit this bill. I watch True Blood and enjoy the show but I also believe there is an agenda being promoted.

I didn't pick up on Remly and the Night of Flowers being gay in the books (Although I really should have) but once I learned that a whole hell of allot of stuff made sense and it really tells you an awful lot about a couple of the major point of view characters. Occasionally, cable networks will add a gay character and gay sex scene for the sake of having it (this imo is more of a Showtime problem) but Remly is not one of those. He is a far more interesting character being gay.

important to the storyline

It kinda is to show who/what Renly is and what kind of King he portrays. He comes off as weak, and even his wife had to remind him that a king does as he pleases.

Right now the story centers around five Kings.

Jofferey Baratheon King of the Iron Throne, Ruler of Westeros but really only firmly in control of Kings landing and Casterly Rock. With ambitions for all of Westeros.

Renly Baratheon Claimant to the Iron Throne, Ruler of the Storm Lands, and The Reach. With ambitions for all of Westeros.

Stannis Bartheon Claimant to the Iron Throne, Ruler of Dragonstone. With ambitions for all of Westeros.

Robb Stark King of the North, Ruler of Winterfell and the Riverlands. With ambitions to only hold what he has now.

Balon GreyJoy King of the Iron Islands, ruler of the Iron Islands with ambitions for the North.

This season centers around these five men and their armies and associates.

I'm pretty shocked to see you post something like that. I've never really liked you as a movie fan, but I've always respected your movie knowledge. Is any show/movie that has visuals you don't agree with indoctrinating you? I mean a movie guy with the extensive knowledge you have can't really feel that way...
