Yes. Would not want bigger or smaller. It's perfect in size.

I got the grill, table, and some accessories for $1000 or so, delivered, directly from the grill dome website. Had a helluva time getting that thing into the table, though. It is beyond heavy. Definitely a two-man job.

Get the Grill Dome because of the stainless hardware. The Primo Oval XL is too massive and the Oval JR is too small for entertaining. The BGE offers no significant advantages over these 2 competitors other than being more widely available.

The top vent on the Primo is rather primitive compared to the competition, but the oval shape is a more efficient use of grill space.

What this misses is the fact that both the Oval XL and Junior have a firebox divider at the midpoint of the firebox which allows one to cook truly indirect, or directly over half of the firebox for short cooks, or remove the divider and put up to about 20lbs of lump in the entire firebox space. I have done too many 14-16 hour cooks on half a firebox single load of lump to remember. I would estimate 95% minimum of the cooks I do on the Oval XL use just one side of the firebox which ends up saving a lot of lump. The Jr is a very good unit which offers much more available grill space than a similar BGE or other. I have had an Oval XL for 5-years and never had an issue with a hinge, vent, etc and the grill grates are still going strong and I have used the shite out of the unit. It holds temp constant very easily with a "primitive" vent or not, and if you use a computer controlled forced air unit on any ceramic for low and slow they are all better for it.

I would buy the biggest unit you can reasonably afford, and I much prefer my cooker to the neighbor's BGE XL. I have no financial interest in any of the grills, just calling it from personal experience. Whatever you get it is better off set in a table, not one of the nests, with high quality stable wheels on the table b/c all of them can be a bitch to move and you don't want a shattering experience.

I agree with all this.

It's certainly a good unit, but it's priced similarly to the larges of the others, and is smaller. I really wish they made a large oval, instead of the same grill as everyone else in the large size.

If I were getting one of the huge ones, it would definitely be the Primo because of the shape.

I am confused. Do all of these people operate grills at the Super Dome? I've always wondered if they get a discount or rain-check type of deal.

I have a Primo XL. Tirebiter is totally correct.
As far as the gasket concerns stated earlier in this thread its really a non issue for me now. I burned my gasket out after a few months. There is a guy on the primo forum that will sell you an after market ceramic gasket. It took about an hour to change one morning. The new gasket will last a life time.

Also primo offers cast iron grill grates and a new cast iron griddle. With my cast iron grates I can turn out professional quality steaks. The primo is incredible versatile. I can cook most anything on want on my grill. I was afraid my XL would be too big. Believe me you may not need the space every day but when you need the space you have it. The box divider is a great aid on small cooks. Ive cooked two whole briskets for parties a few times.

No matter which ceramic cooker you get join the primo grill forum. It is an incredible source of info and recipes.

re: Does anyone here own a Grill Dome?

I'm still debating a Grill Dome vs. the BGE.

I've looked at a lot of reviews as well as YouTube videos for information and the Grill Dome definitely makes a case for being a very comparable/better overall grill.

I'm in the same spot. Get over to Shopper's Choice on Coursey in BR if you get the chance. I like that you can compare the two side by side, including cooking on both if you want. I'm attracted to the Grill Dome for now because of the much thicker ceramic, superior hardware and lifetime warranty. Although, everyone with a BGE swears by it (the same seems to be true for Grill Domers). I'm just trying to make sure I make the right choice.

Sounds like we're definitely in the same boat.

After I saw your post about Shopper's Choice, I visited their website and I plan on making a trip out there very soon. It's not that far of a drive for me from my house. It does appear though that they're only open Monday - Friday which sucks since I commute/work in Metairie all week long.

No, I went last Saturday afternoon. They were open and had a good amount of folks there. I'm seeing hours Tues-Sat 10 AM - 7 PM.

To you and to whoever else wants to chime in:

This is kind of off-topic but it's still somewhat relevant.

What type of lump charcoal do you use in your Grill Dome? What type/flavors/brand do you recommend?
