I believe strike 1 was not firing Johnson 3 weeks ago when we could have conducted a full search, and possibly gotten Frank Martin. If he went to sc, I'm sure we could have made a better offer.

If he starts driving into the university lakes then we'll know who he takes after.

I think some of you people are under the misconception that LSU fans give two big shits about basketball.

The football team spills a cooler of gatorade and everyone is talking about it.

The baseball team breaks a bat and it's mentioned at least two or three times during your work day.

New basketball coach? 5 days in the OR and literally not ONE person mentioned it. NO ONE GIVES A shite. He continues to lose and everyone continues to not give a shite. He wins, eh, someone will give a shite for a little while.

That's the wrong way to think about it, how many people cared about baseball pre-skip?

The problem with getting rid of Alleva lies in the fact with the cupboard so bare, Jj will need at least 3 yrs before he is graded and starts to be held accountable. Let's just hope les stays awhile and continues to be successful, no way in hell I want this guy hiring a football coach.

if the program has consistent success, the fans will support it. Ohio State, and Florida prove that football schools can have top 10 basketball programs.

I think that is a fair statement, but honestly I am disappointed to say the least that the best an ex Duke AD could do is hire someone from the Sunbelt with direct ties to some of the cancer that has plagued this program.

I think you are underestimating the politics in this hire. T.J. was a very good hire on paper. However, with c.t. and a.a.u. coaches working against him, he had difficulty succeeding here. You don't think other outside coaches took notice?

More likely than not, they saw c.t. and alumni advocating jones and knew they wouldn't help them succeed. why go to place where you are not wanted and the people are so petty they will try to make you fail?

this is my issue with c.t. and really hope this succeeds. cause i really have a distain for that guy, now.

you want to dictate the hire? you want to bash any coach than your guy, then coach the dang team yourself.

Basketball recruiting isn't like football, it's much more national. The right coach could have come in told ct how things were going to be, and if he wasn't satisfied with that went on about recruiting nationally and not given two shits about the players he was trying to peddle.
A lot of you have an inflated sense of the talent in la, most of the programs greats were from out of state: shaq, chris Jackson, Rudy mackkin, Pete Maravich, jack warner

It would be two bad hires in a row in our second biggest money producIng sport and the one with the most potential improvement.

To be honest, I think JA has done as good of job with the Basketball program as anyone else would have done.

Yeah for some reason some people think Louisiana is talent rich for football, it has to be for basketball. LSU will have to find players in urban areas in the Midwest and the Northeast in order compete year in and year out with Kentucky and Florida in the SEC. Louisiana talent might get you in the tournament every 3-4 years but thats about it.

Ok, Oweo but how can you defend not firing Johnson 3 weeks ago, when we could have made a splash hire?

If TCU wouldn't have come calling Trent would still be here. He didn't get fired. I think they didn't want to buy him out.

There is a lot of money to be made in being good at basketball. More than baseball could ever dream of. Whether the fans care or not the athletic dept. and the BOS care.

This. Johnson, IMO, had one more year but when Hamilton announced he wasn't coming back, TJ saw the writing on the wall and left. Next year, if we were going to have to replace a HC Jones would not have been hired.

It is all about timing and TJ left at one of the worse times possible. Hiring Jones, IMO, is a sign that there was no one else available to take the job. If Jones was going to be our first choice, he would have been hired in the middle of the week.

No. By all accounts he tried to get a big time coach and nobody bit.

No he didn't make any serious offers. Just a show.
I think Jones was in on it and he was the man the day TJ left.
I really think they told Trent to find a job.
Jones even thinking he'd be a candidate should be a surprise. Remember no matter how the revisionist spin it he was fired at LSU.

Exactly, but I think what people fail to realize is that in the deep south, if you are an athlete you are pressured/encouraged to play football which affects the state's talent it provides in basketball.

Also, it is hard to compare football recruiting with basketball recruiting. It is a whole different ball game.

It is hard for me to believe this. IMO, I don't think TJ was all that happy here and when Hamilton decided to leave, TJ did what was best for his career.

TJ had one more year to win and he knew it would be hard to do with what he was going to have next year.
