teams win the title by drafting guys like drummond and having them pan out
teams stay in the lottery by drafting guys like drummond and having them never develop work ethic or enthusiasm
he's the definition of boom or bust

NOLA isn't a free agent destination, so we need to get as many quality players via draft as we can and build a young core.
this is an argument to draft drummond. the odds of Nola ever signing a big man of his potential quality are about 0
if we want a dominant big man, we have to draft him...we gotta roll the dice and pray

I just don't see him producing against NBA talent when he didn't against college talent.

Questionable work ethic? According to who?
an athletic 6-11 guy should hit 9-10 boards in college as long as he tries a little, and would hit 10-12 if he worked hard
rebounding is about effort more than anything

His per 48s are all middling in NCAA. I am not going to go back and post it again, but I described them in the old Drummond thread. Not a single part of his game was elite this year. I wouldn't even say great. He was decent in a few areas.

Yeah, and MKG, Beal, Lamb, and Barnes feel like they're only going to be marginal upgrades to Ariza or solid backup SGs. I'm going to be extremely disappointed if we can't get Davis or Robinson, but if that's the case, I say take the chance on Drummond.

he didn't work hard in college
if he doesn't work hard in the NBA, he'll be an end of the bench guy making $5M per in a few years
if the light goes off, he'll be a better version of bynum. the lakers took that risk and it kind of paid off (and there was a rough start to be sure, including kobe calling out picking bynum specifically)
howard had a huge risk, too. remember the major "okafor v. howard" debates that year? okafor had it all...college production, intelligence, defense, etc. he was the "can't miss" all-star. howard was a raw kid with all the question marks (other than potential). they look silly now, but it was a huge debate at the time
the era of having tim duncans come into the NBA as big men ready to go is pretty much over, and even in the old era duncans weren't exactly common. if you want big, you gotta gamble. and big wins

i think lamb is going to be a stud, but he's redundant on our team. mkg is a lot like drummond, except he works much harder right now. the problem is working hard pays off a lot more for big men than perimeter guys. ariza works hard, but he's still mediocre on offense. those skills are rare, and it takes more than just hard work to develop them

Comparing Drummond to Howard is laughable. Sorry, but Howard never had a chump year, high school or not.

Having watched a lot of his games, UCONNs offense did him no favors. It was, run the clock dow and let the guards go 1-on-1 at the end of the shot clock. You can't look at his PPG and assume he sucks. UCONN basically ran iso plays for their guards all day. Anything Drummond got was on offensive rebounds or the fastbreaks.

what about okafor?

i don't think drummond wanted to go to UConn to be honest. 1 so so year with calhoun (who is not exactly a good developer of big men for the NBA game) isn't going to make me declare drummond will be terrible
i will say if he doesn't increase his effort he will be terrible.

If you watched any UConn games, you could see Drummond had some flashes of brilliance. He's extremely athletic and can do pretty much whatever he wants around the rim. It's all of a matter of if he feels like making the effort to get there.

Just pointing out something interesting and not really making a point, I'll bet if you went back and looked at Hornets vs. Magic games in past seasons that you would find that Okafor performed pretty well against Howard on both ends (excluding the game this past January). Could be wrong, but I think he played surprisingly well.

This Drumnmond talk is very comparable to Derrick Favors from a couple years ago. Big time HS big man prospects who didnt put up eye-catching numbers in college. Drummond's FT% is this only thing that stops their numbers from basically being identical.
Favors is definitely starting to show the number 3 overall pick potential. Unfortunately for him, he's playing on one of the deepest front courts in the league. With starting minutes, he'd easily be averaging a double-double right now.

The other day I read an article actually making this exact comparison when it comes to the two to three year projection. Drummond's free throw shooting is amazingly awful though.

I watched him all year for UConn....he played with no heart. He has no mean streak, and I question his will to get better. That is not even to begin with his complete lack of an offensive game. He's a total project at this point.
He was a terribly soft rebounder for a guy his size. He had 2 pts and 4 rbs against Iowa State's 6'8" center. These games were common.
Guards kept him out of the offense because he consistently bricked uncontested shots from 4 feet away. He has tremendous athleticism, but has no mean streak (like Bynum). If the light goes on, Drummond could be great. If not, he will be a 10 year underachiever.
For those questioning his work ethic, I think this is off. It is just that he has no killer instinct once the games start. He is a hard worker.

He was also a great shot blocker and a good rebounder at Uconn. These concerns you have? People had the same concerns about Andrew Bynum and Deandre Jordan. He was also at a shitty situation at Uconn with his Coach and games where the guards shut him out of the offense. He also had dominate games against elite competition.

You only shoot FTs that bad because you aren't trying. Like most things Drummond once he increases his effort that will get better.
