Version implies after the fact/original.

You've got it assbackwards.

Scotland has a lot of great bands particularly Idlewild and Sons & Daughters. The Frames are Irish and huge, but no success here. British bands? Is Squeeze British? Echo and the Bunnymen.

You are incorrect, sir. Version does not necessarily connote chronology. And I'm very well aware of which "version" came first. In fact, I sort of alluded to it when I mentioned Jeff Lynne, who only came to the Move later and shortly before he and Wood formed ELO.

I know they're only known for like 1 or 2 songs here but wasn't Thin Lizzy pretty big over in Europe?

eta: I know they're Irish but close enough right?

i think Keane would qualify

a lot of people have probably heard this song Somewhere Only We Know - it got a little bit of radio play and was on some tv shows, but they really haven't been successful in the states other than that. or at least nowhere near the success they have in england

here are two other tracks i really like of theirs

Nothing In My Way

Don't know why they aren't big over here.

The Sensational Alex Harvey Band. Not so sensational here. The Groundhogs are one my personal U.K. favorites that never caught on big here, although they've toured here on and off over the years.

I am another huge Move fan/collector. I haven't got it yet, and can't vouch for the quality, but they have now released The Move-Live at the Fillmore West. I would buy it regardless of quality though, just the fact that something exists live from The Move during that era, especially a whole show.

Blur was the first one that popped in my head. I mean they sort of made it in the US, but not to the extent they did in England.

The Kinks are another band like that, some US success but not like they were in the UK

From what I understand Mott was modestly successful in the US

Another band I enjoyed in the early 70's; when I saw them live at St. Bernard Civic Auditorium, the opening act was some upstart band, also from England, called 'Queen'. Sometimes you never know who will make it big...

For the record, I was never a big Queen fan either...they couldn't touch any of the other Brit bands in that era, in my opinion.

Keane - Nothing In My Way

One of my all time favorite songs. This song is sooooooo underrated.

If solo acts count, then count me as a huge fan of this guy. Most maybe popish but I enjoy it.
