The answer is no....
This is a government type knee jerk reaction to a problem. The "solution" doesn't actually fix the problem, but it shows the public that they(governing body / NCAA) are doing SOMETHING.
"Never mistake motion for action"
If the ball comes off the new bats 10% slower than the old bats and the pitcher gets hit in the head with either he is still in a world of hurt and his reaction time is not affected enough for him to get out of the way.....

It wasn't MLB scouts complaining about the bats it was NCAA coaches and one of them leading the parade was Tim Corbin at Vandy
It was done for safety. There was a major concern back in early 70s when aluminum bats were approved about the increased velocity in which the ball jumped off the aluminum bats compared to wooden bats.
Tiger players don't appear to be as bulked up as those in the creatine days! The crack down on steroids may be limiting some of the power!

Some recent bunt attempts make me cringe from a player safety standpoint.
Ironically, player safety (i.e. comebackers) were one of the official reasons for implementing BBCOR bats. SO, again I refer to HS ball, look and see where those infields are now playing as opposed to last year. Playing in, and the OF is following them.
Now, the big hitters may not be able to clear the fences, but they can still smoke a ball. As they adjust their swings to hit for average, their trajectories will get lower. And yes, they will also be asked to show bunt to keep defenses honest in the small ball tradition.
So this to me is a formula for disaster. so the pitcher is a tiny bit safer, but the 1B and 3B playing further in are more at risk.
As for the MLB pushing for the change, I find it ridiculous that with their World Series viewership going down and down, they want changes to make the game even more dull. What drew more attention, the homer McGwire/Sosa chase or the base stealing record "chase"?

Small ball blows. I've watched one game this year.

$1200-$3000 per season per high school player for wooden bats? A high school player could use a new wooden bat for each at bat and it would barely cost over the $3000 that you noted.
A seasons worth of wooden bats would roughly cost the same as these expensive space-age bats.

College baseball has gone from being a game I greatly enjoyed, regardless of teams, to being one I only watch when LSU is involved.
The commissioner of the Big 10 was a leading proponent of the newest bats since he felt it would help to even things up between southern and northern teams.

Perfect example of the shittiness of the new bats is the fly ball that the Florida player didn't tag up on against LSU in game 1. That ball had no business not being way gone much less not even reaching the track. Worked in LSU's favor, but that illustrated the earlier post of an off speed pitch is damn near impossible to hit out.

Don't like the new bats, but if they stay with them it could be balanced out with moving fences in!! 10-20 ft would help bring the numbers closer to what they were

quote:The transition from Al to wood should be made at college level and if a college BB program can't afford bats, I guess they can't afford baseball.
many schools couldn't afford wood bats and breakage. High schools definitely couldn't, and not many parents would shell out the money for 6-10 good wood bats per season for their kid. We're talking 1200-3000 per player on a high school level.
This would parallel the majors and if players can't accept the risk of bats many will be using in their future careers, I guess they should do something else.
Some things we do are inherently unsafe and baseball is one of them. Rhymes prolly entertained the thought they should limit the speed of fastballs. They can ruin the game attempting to make it safe.

I've never liked baseball anyway, but I LOVE LSU baseball. And it was a hell of a lot more fun when we were breaking home run records than it is when we're breaking bunting records.
Get rid of the crappy new bats, and invent some bats with even more pop than the gorilla ball bats of the '90s. The games would be more enjoyable if they were home run derbys than it is watching to see whose 15 foot dinking bunt stays fair more often than the other guy.

The beauty of college baseball was that the game was never over until the last out was recorded. Anyone could get hot at any time and make a run. You see the new bats have not only affected home runs. They have, by a significant margin affected averages and players ability to hit to the gaps. The bats we had in '09 were nowhere close to the juiced rocket launchers of old so I can't understand the change.
Side note, I actually like bunting and running in baseball, and with the09 bats you could balance the run game with quality hitters to have an enjoyable product. Not even wooden bat major league hitters are this handcuffed.

I hate just go to wood, they were fine after the first adjustments

No! It sucks. The college game was fine a few years ago. I like college baseball because LSU and the offense. The games were more exciting. I can't sit through a major league game. Not even the world series. Leave the college game alone.

Its a different game, but not less enjoyable to me. I do wish we went back to the 2009 bats though.
