How in the world did someone in this thread just make a comparison between a guy who is 6'7 and not growing to a near 7 foot Aldridge who is strong in the post these days?
I'm projecting long term that's the type of talent I can see him developing into. You have to remember that Victor is only a sophmore and is standing at 6'8" right now. He's not done growing.
Coach D, how many games have you watched him play? If you're basing it off of a couple of games you've watched in the AAU circuit this year I can understand why he hasn't impressed you. Trust me, he has the skillset to be a very elite player. He really made a name for himself last year on the AAU scene and hopefully he continue to do the same within this AAU season. Being given one of the 22 people nationwide invitations to tryout for the 2014 Team USA team says alot in regards to how scouts value his skillset and potential development.

I've seen him at least 5 times play school ball (all in big games against solid competition) and a few times on the AAU circuit. Still waiting for him to dominate a basketball game stars do.
In that same respect, I've seen Malik Newman (6'3 PG CO2015 Jackson, MS) play a couple times and he took over and dominated each time. That is what stars do in big games.

Do you not realize the offensive philiosophy St. Aug has played with having Felix at PG? It's kind of hard to dominate a game offensively when the focus of the offense isn't geared to feed the big men in the post. With Felix gone, I expect that to change.

Comparing Victor to a PG is not a good comparison. Like I said earlier, you have to look at the teams offensive philoosphy and how many other star players that team has as well.

The point Coach D is making is that these rankings are fluid. North Carolina and Syracuse are calling now, but a shitty AAU season and that will dry up quick. Go compare Rivals rankings from year to year and you will see names that disappear.
All players, not just Victor, need to bring it every season or their stock can drop quickly.

Yeah, I understand that and I'm sure his dad his in his ear explaining this to him as well. I'm hoping for him to develop a certain type of nastiness and swag in his game this AAU season. Like when he steps on the court to play, he has the mindset, "This is my damn court, nobody is going to outplay me on my court."

No shite!!!

Yeah, but it sounds like he's not doing that.

With elite athletes, especially in basketball, you usually see a signficant jump between their sophomore and junior seasons. Most of that jump is strictly the mental aspect of the athlete. Like I previously said, I think he has the skillset to be elite, he now needs to develop that mindset this AAU season. It's time for him to develop the swag that comes with being the projected top player in the state for the 2014 class.

Well I will continue to keep you updated with him and what he has done on the AAU circuit but in the two games I watched him play this season so far. He is 0 for 2. Plays D alright (aka he blocks shots that are around him) but I can't tell you how many times on offense he looked like he didn't belong on the court. Unable to dribble or shoot with any sort of consistency.

Yeah, I cannot explain, other than with HTF has stated regarding his output with Felix how he struggled all season on offense... He'll turn it around as the summer league progress and be ready to ball out his remaining HS yrs...

Besides Victor, who are some other players in the class of 2014 to watch?
Posted on 4/9/12 at 4:20 pm to Coach D
I understand everything you are saying and I do believe Craig has stuff to work on, but did u really just ask how Felix is going to Texas?

That was another poster.
I've heard it many times, though. I haven't seen him enough to have solid opinion.

as a soph, it is too early to write this kid off, or even evaluate him fully.
Next year he should come into his own. That will be the make or break year for him.
Like Hammond said, a lot of sophmores still lack that killer instinct. It's a lot easier to develop for someone like Gathers, especially during the HS season. He doesn't play quite the level of competition that Victor does.
As far as Tasmin Mitchell goes, he was 6'5" without shoes on and had a pedestrian wing span and limited athleticism. Anyone have Victor's measurements? To me he looks much bigger than that and is molded like a true post player.

Ive stood next to him a few times in the past few months and he looked to be a legit 6'7. So I assume with shoes they probably list him around 6'8.

People just dont understand that kids will not drop 30 a game like at these other high schools, where they let the stars shoot it 50 times a game. As good as Hollis Price was he might score 20 within the offensive sets(motion offense with griff) and the other 10 would be because he was a beast on D and fast break opportunities.

He's talking about an AAU game.

I will let everyone know where to go to watch him play during the summer but put it this way. Jarell and Victor combined for somewhere around 60% of the usage at minimum. They are getting their shots, when they aren't dribbling off their legs or jumping in the air and just slinging the ball out of bounds... I know it is early, chemistry wasn't there but it won't be there. They don't practice much and each has their own team. It is AAU, you show up and stars take over... Or they aren't stars.

Sounds like you hating bruh! I hope you eat the shite out this crow that's gonna be served up to you!

I hope I am wrong and LSU gets him and he is a star... but I only call it like I see it.
