How good of a defensive first baseman is he ? I've only watched a handful of games this year so I was wondering what you guys opinion of him defensively are ? Just a bad night last night, or a concern defensively ?

He's played fine there. Had a bad night.

Chalk it up to a bad night.... It happens in baseball.....

He sure did get bailed out by that baserunning blunder. He was in line to be the goat there in the 9th.

I think he just had a bad night in the field. Florida seemed to hit a lot of slow rollers in the right spots last night that were giving both he and Jacoby fits.
My bigger concern is having him in there against lefty pitching. He can't hit lefthanders with a paddle.

He is an average first baseman but we don't have a better option. I personally would rather see Edward play first and snick DH against lefties

Most first baseman are taller.

Could play Edward at first and dh snickeris against lefties. That's an option im sure pm is considering.

The throw from Jordi that he booted in the 9th was pretty bad but in general Grant is a decent 1st bagger given that's not his natural position.

What position did he play before coming to LSU besides pitcher?
I know he has had stints at 1B, 2B, 3B, & C at LSU

SS in HS. Pitched as mentioned. Had never caught a game before last year.

Could play Edward at first
Edward is not nearly as good as Dozar defensively at 1B. I don't think this is a good option. Like you said, Dozar just had a bad, really bad, night. He's solid defensively.

They were all on pretty tough plays as well

Dozar just had a bad night.
I will be very interested to see what PM does with the lineup tonight. Im not sure how you sit Snick and Edward. Ross has to fit somewhere.

Dozar is very athletic for a 1B but he's not a natural there. He's always seemed solid there until last night.

Playing SS his whole life, you would think the transition to 1B would be fairly easy.
Just my 2 cents

The play in the 9th was not a tough play.
