Yeah, The Masters and Augusta National have done a terrible job at creating demand for their product. Just a terrible job

Thats dumb. I wanted to watch Tiger tomorrow morning, but apparently thats not going to happen now. He will be done by the time the coverage even starts.

Who are the two feature groups that Masters.com will be showing in the morning? I haven't looked it up but there is a chance one of those groups could include Tiger.

Nevermind, just checked and Tiger is not in the featured groups today.

Augusta makes more from the coverage than the membership

I don't think the memberships are that expensive, they make way more from CBS, but it's not like CBS is gonna go anywhere bc they only get a few hours of airtime

The rates are actually very low because of the money generated from the tournament. Or supposed rates no one really knows.

Screw that.

I'm pissed because I thought I would at least be able to listen to the coverage on the masters app, but that coverage doesnt start til 2 today either.

Thank god ESPN is only getting that much air time. It's gonna be tough getting thru that much air time with Torico and Strange. The other guy is tolerable, but my god get SVP or somebody than those two idiots.

I understand not showing coverage for certain non-major tournaments until Saturday, but for the Masters I strongly feel they should show the entirety of the tournament. Don't they show the entire British open practically during the summers? I just think its similar to not showing the first half of any other sporting event. Its just as important.

the PGA would be pressuring them to have tv coverage

Ha, and they could tell the PGA to go F themselves. If the PGA ever wanted to go toe to toe with Augusta and try and force them in to anything, I am sure Augusta could just schedule The Masters the weekend of the PGA Championship. Then they could point and laugh when no one ranked in the top 40 shows up to play in the PGA Championship.

It may not be live, but I'm sure they will rebroadcast Tiger's round on ESPN once coverage starts.

I don't really get the reasoning that "we should be thankful that we get what we get". Also, people keep saying Augusta doesn't need the money, so they don't show the tournament. Why not show it anyway and donate the extra money to charity. If they are truly intereted in growing the sport, why not show the entire tournament to viewers with growing interest?

re: ESPN's Masters coverage

It is part of the mystique of the tournament and the course. For such a long time, the only people that really knew what the front nine looked like were people that attended the tournament. They also don't release nearly as many tickets as the US Open or the other majors, which makes it infinitely more manageable to see what is going on.

There is literally not a single thing associated with The Masters that Augusta National could triple or quadruple the price of and people would even blink at paying it. They don't do it because well, they just don't. Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should.

I was lucky enough to attend the tournament one year and not to romanticize it too much, but I have never been to a sporting event like it. Everything is priced like a minor league baseball game, no one gets out of line, everything from the fan experience is just perfect.

Also, it isn't the mission of Augusta National to "grow the sport". That is left up to the USGA and the R&A.

I get all that, I really do. But I still feel justified in being pissed that I am relegated to watching such a miniscule amount when I could be watching the entire thing.

They have your right where they want you. You have an incredible demand for the product but can't access it...

Right, but if they aren't giving me anything to view or purchase, then they aren't cashing in on my demand. What good is all this interest if I'm not going to be able to do something about it.

They aren't interested in cashing in

They are more about status than money

Then we're back at square one. My interest in the Masters really has nothing to do with not knowing what it looks like. Hell, it wasn't until yesterday that I realized I wouldn't be able to see the entire thing. I have off for Good Friday and figured I'd play a round early in the morning then watch the Masters the rest of the day.

It isn't like they suddenly scaled back coverage.

Either steam some live coverage here LINK or play 36 and catch the ESPN coverage in the afternoon.
