Aug is similar to Curtis IMO. Not many good players have panned out from Curtis since 2000 (around when I started there)... I mean, recently I can think of Wells, McKnight, Wimprine, and Jackson as the only guys who have even had moderate success. Maybe a couple others who got playing time at smaller programs.

yep, gotta love these boards. Everyone thinks every little thing revolves around recruiting and around Alabama and LSU. Little do they know that these schools have already started conditioning for next year, not giving a damn about who is recruited where. They get paid to win HS games. this board is ridiculous sometimes (a lot of the time)

St Aug is a horribly run program compared to Curtis. They haven't won shite in decades. Crutchfield may be the best thing that has ever happened to them.

Again I have no reason to doubt that Saban's rec helped him get the job or that he likes and is grateful to Saban. I don't need to talk to St Aug coaches to know the idea that he is just a Bama plant that will steer all his top players there and away from LSU is fricking stupid.

i'm always amazed how they can live of past reputation. They haven't been relevant since I was in high school, late 90's early 2000.s.
Who knows what Turner and Austin turn into.

Even if they avg 1 top notch D1 prospect every year, so what? They are all now going to go to Bama? That's somehow going to kill LSU and further build up Bama? Yeah, I'd love to get Fournette, but 2014 is supposed to be a huge year for RB's in the south. La always produces good RB's and so does Houston. and if he wants to play LB, who could blame him. Probably a better chance at a longer NFL career at LB.
no matter these tinfoil hat dudes say, Crutchfield is a professional coach who's aim in coaching is not to help Nick Saban above all else

I don't hate St Aug at all. just clearing up some misconceptions that this is some powerhouse football program. It's obvious that people who aren't around the metro area think this is the same program as the 70's and 80's or even the late 90's.
Recently they have gotten better, but it's still not a huge pipeline for college talent. Im an LSU fan and only care about LSU caliber players. And in the last 10 years, they have had very few.

Dude, regardless of winning games at the high school level, they produce D1 athletes. Jones, Alem, Turner, Austin, Mathieu, and Fournette alone are a better group of six prospects than all but about 5 or 6 LA schools can boast over the past 10 years... (off the top of my head WMHS, Destrehan, OP Walker, Evangel, Curtis, maybe ESJ, maybe one or two I'm missing?).

Think about what you just said, that's like 5 guys, 2 are RSFR in college, 1 is a HS Jr and 1 didnt even graduate from there. Not exactly gonna destroy LSU if some of those guys go to Bama. Even if the young guys pan out, why would Saban want to turn that into a pipeline?

because you know 5 names doesn't mean they are putting out talent. What about legit D-1 players at other schools? can you name any of them? Any other LSU caliber players from 2000-2005?
Turner and Austin haven't done anything at LSU. If they are career backups, who cares? St Aug has big lineman like them just about every year who never amount to anything.
Im not saying sever ties with St Aug. But damn. you'd think we are talking about some factory here.

Over the last 5-6 years, LSU has had 5 St. Aug kids, right? The Joneses, TM7, Trai Turner, Jonah Austin. I wanna say Deangelo Peterson went to St. Aug before Desire Street Academy but could be wrong. Anyway, that is pretty significant when you also take into account that St. Aug also has (potentially) one of the best players in the country next year. I can't think of another La high school just off the top of my head that beats that.
I understand your point, but I think you're planting yourself too far on the side of your argument.

I'm not arguing the Bama angle at all. I'm just saying St Aug is not "just another school." We're not exactly talking about Geuydan here.

Now I know you are paranoid. I have no doubt that he's a great prospect or that Saban wants him. I also know that Nick Saban knows 1 prospect out of 85 scholarship players is not going to make or break his team.

Dude I was kinda with you on some of your points until you said Crutch is a.professional. You do realize he was fired for asking one of his players if he was screwing a chic, when she walked by them. Yea that sounds so professional.

And really there are two sides to this, the H-town Tiger/Lester Earl side and then the other guys who are over the top paranoid.
The truth is definitely somewhere in the middle. Having Crutchfield at St. Aug gives Bama a leg up on St. Aug prospects that Bama did not have before. There is simply no argument against that point, Crutchfield's stepson goes to Bama (Sylve's recruitment was directed by Crutchfield and they chose Bama because they thought Saban could develop Sylve the best), and a Saban/Burns rec helped Crutchfield get the job.
Is this going to damage LSU in any significant, tangible way? I really doubt that. Maybe if Bama pulls Fournette and he ends up winning the Heisman you could make that argument 5 years from now. On the flip side, Fournette may go to LSU, may go to Bama and not develop, and St. Aug might not have any college prospects to speak of over the next 5 years.
