If he does it would be impressive as hell. In those days you couldn't really pitch around anyone because everyone could hit.

i hate to say no, because .479 at this point is retarded

Does Rhymes have a realistic shot at breaking that .410 mark set by Russ Johnson? Too early?
I'd say yes to both questions. Let's see where he is after 20 SEC games.

I'd say no way but it's crazy he's at .479 right now. I'd say .400 is doable but LSU is going to face some fantastic pitchers in the SEC.

LSU faces Baxendale, Johnson, and Randall in the next 2 weeks. Lets see what his average and hits are after that. Those 2 series will tell you a lot.

It's waaaay too early...so early that I'd say there is a high probability that he will not.

Rhymes will get to .500 if he goes 2/2 in his first 2 at bats Tuesday night.

Since we're at the halfway mark of the regular season, let's say he gets the same amount of ABs for the second half of the season as the first. He would need to get 36 hits in his next 108 ABs, a .333 batting average, to break the record. That's definitely attainable considering how well he's been hitting the ball.

Even more impressive is Rhymes is doing this when bats were changed compared to previous record?
Posted on 4/27/12 at 11:08 pm to Boh
Does he still have only 7 strike outs?
Because 7 Ks out of 147 at bats is insane.

Brandon Larson 1997: 110 for 289 in 69 games - record for hits
Raph Rhymes 2012: 74 for 147 in 39 games
Russ Johnson 1994: .410 (96 for 234 in 66 games - record for avg)
LSU should have AT LEAST 22 games remaining in the season. 13 regular season games + 3 SEC tournament games + 3 regional games + 3 super regional games.
Using a projected 3.75 at bats/game he should have around 82 at bats left (more if the Tigers advance to the World Series).
He needs 37 hits to eclipse the Larson season record of 110. 37 for 82 or an average of .451 for the remainder of the season gets him there.
So getting that record is still going to take a hell of an effort, no injuries or missed games and a little luck but it is now within reach, especially if the Tigers end up in Omaha.

There are 13 regular season games left, plus the SEC and NCAA tournament games.
8 for 12 against Kentucky
3 for 4 so far against UGA
This cat is batting .531 in SEC play

I say he locks up the hit record in the second game of the CWS.

Boh, I appreciate you keeping up with the stats and I really enjoy reading it.
Do people realize that Rhymes is about to set an LSU batting record that may not be broken in our lifetimes! A freaking .470? (hyperbole or statistical fact?)
