I've always been a console guy but I played bf3 on my buddy's pc and was blown away how much better it was than the 360. So my question is, how much would it cost me to get a pc to run bf3 and which brands should I be looking at

If you are looking to buy retail - either from a store or company (Dell) you will pay out the arse for what you want. I second the recommendation that you build your own, or at least use a company that doesn't pull you through the ringer (ibuypower, cyberpowerpc).

newegg.com is the site I bought my parts from. I think tigerdirect.com is another one some people on here recommend.

This is a site you should look at

I ordered my first custom PC from there. Plenty of price options and whatnot and they check over everything to make sure it's compatible before it ships.

I like newegg for the parts. As for the process I have no idea where to go. My dad taught me how to build one.

There are 'how-to's' on websites like Tom's Hardware that can help you put together a build. As far as actually putting the hardware into the case...it's really easy.

depends on how well you want to run it

just barely? $4-600 if you build it
max settings? $10-1200 if you build it

a little more expensive for a pre built rig
a lot more expensive for a mac

If that's true its amazing how far money goes these days with desktop gaming PCs.

12 years ago give or take, a top of the line system to run max settings was going to be thousands of dollars.

It is true for single monitor only. Eyefinity or NV surround would require an additional $1000 most likely.

I just got finished building one.

Maximum PC regularly spec low, medium and high end price range computer builds. I usually take a bit of what i like from each. Usually going for mid range. I have splurged on a couple things, but mostly it's all mid range. I know I spent over 1K on mine. But not much more. So far I love it.

Here is what I put in mine.
Intel i5 2500K/3.3 Ghz Processor - $230
Asus P8Z65-V - $204
8GB Patriot G2 DDR3 - $48
XFX Radion HD 6970 - $376
Corsair HX 850 PSU - $169
Corsair Graphite 600T Case - $155
Samsung 830 Series 250gb SSD - $380

yeah that's true. I'm talking single monitor, 1080p max settings though.

it doesn't require a top of the line system to run max settings though

a good upper-midrange build (i5/low i7, geforce 560 ti), will have plenty of power to take care of it and should come in just shy of $1000

A 6870 won't run max settings fluidly...not on a 64p server anyway

Got mine at ibuypower a year ago for $750 and I haven't found a game I can't run at max Skyrim, BF3, MW3, ME3, SWtoR, Kingdoms of Amalur, etc.

That was just the box though I hade the monitor, keyboard, speakers, and mouse already.

I don't have much experience with Radeon cards.. I just mentioned it because it's the closest thing to a price equivalent to the 560 that ATI makes. I'll delete that bit from my post.

6970 would do the trick. Think they're still going for ~$300 though

You can get a 6870 for like, $190...it won't play very well on ultra settings on a 64p server, but I didn't have any problems on high settings, which is still pretty good graphics.
