Seeing this thread revived just makes it so depressing that we won't find anything new out for so many years. I am about 2 chapters away from finishing ASOS for the second time. My plan is to follow AFFC and ADWD according to an order recently posted on Tower of the Hand that follows a more chronological order than the actual books one after the other. Has anyone tried it yet?

I believe the R + L = JS theory as well as the Lyanna is KotLT theory. The post about Rhaegar and tPtwP is spot on.

I think about how central Jon is to the entire story... and then I think about the Brienne/Jaime story and I can't help but think "what the hell does any of that matter?"

I'll admit I missed the "bleeding star" ref at the wall betrayal in Jon's last chapter. There's no way Martin could waste that set up letting JOn die...warging sounds like a way it gets done for sure.
The re-read project On Westeros must be the chrono order y'all are talking about. Westeros.org.

While the bleeding star is likely meant to be part of the prophesy, I remember reading that he lost a bet with a friend that was a cowboys fan and had to put him as one of the characters and give him a quick gruesome death. So, I still believe it is a sign of Jon being AA, but I'm not as sure as I once was.

There is a theory that Greywater Watch moves back and forth through time, and/or Howland ages backward ala Merlin. If true then Jojen=Howland. Dunno if I buy it, but makes sense if he influenced sequence of events at Tower of Joy and The Harrenhall Tourney.
Bummer about the Cowboys bet. Hope that's just BS - cuz at this time I give up on Jon being a legit Targ and heir to the IT (too cliche for Martin) but I believe he's tPtwP. I think AA and tPtwP are two different people (no, not Stannis)

Right on. Jj always has this sense of doom about him, which lends credence to this cracked of all crackpot theories... Like a life's quest ends with getting the next greenseer to Blood raven. (I assume we've all read The Hedge Knight /Dunk and Egg- I liked Brienne finding Dunk's shield. I'm sure he's got lineage in Tarth now)
But fear not...remember, Barriston Selmy was a white cloak throughout the rebellion, had access to Arthur Dayne, Oswald Whent and Gerold Hightower...even Rhaegar. Hell, Jaime may know R+L=J. Howland may not be the only secret holder we think he is

Just gonna throw this out there...
I watched Full Metal Jousting and size definitely did not guarantee a good jouster. The smallest guy surprised everyone by being one of the best jousters. He was an excellent rider and his horse had a lot to do w/ it as well b/c the horse added some weight and "umph" to his hits. He was also the only one to ride the hottest horse that no one else could handle. He got along well w/ the horse and had good performances from him.....so I can see Lyanna being the KofLT b/c of this....and the way Jojen kept asking Bran if he heard the story before.
Also, after re-reading GoT over...almost done w/ it and about start on CoK again...there is no doubt in my mind that Lyanna is the mother of Jon Snow....Promise me, Ned.

Really good point.
Martin does set up many "obvious" story lines, just so he can go in a completely different direction.
So, if Lyanna and Howland are obvious choices for tKotLT, then it may be someone else.
My nominees would be one of the She Wolf's brothers: the Wild Wolf (Brandon), Quiet Wolf (Ned), and the Pup (Benjen).
Since tKotLT was small in stature, my prediction is that Benjen Stark will be revealed as Knight of the Laughing Tree. The sigil on the shield does suggest a Stark. And the Pup is mentioned several times during the story.

I don't think it's as obvious as it seems...for example, pre- ADWD I fell into the trap about the Three-Eyed Crow being Bloodraven was too obvious...Well, while not impossible...I would be disappointed if it turned out to be Ben. Talk about much ado about nothing. That would really make me wanna kick Martin's bearded-funny-hat-wearing ass.
With just the evidence in this thread alone, I would be surprised if it was anyone but Lyanna.
The other stories, I guess you're referring to the Dunk and Egg tales include the graphic novels/ novellas The Hedge Knight, The Mystery Knight, and The Sworn Sword. They are pre-quels if you will to ASOIaF.
