- Six quality starters (Shields, Hellikson, Moore, Price, Davis, Neiman)
- Carlos Pena back where he belongs (way more production from 1st than Kockman)
- The got a Molina behind the plate
- solid defense
- Best Manager in the game, Joe Madden
Anytime Kyle Farnsworth is considered your bullpen ace, then things are probably pretty dicey... but Wade Davis or Neiman could end up in the pen.
What say you?

I think they have a legitimate shot at it. I think that division is wide open except for the Orioles.

Yes the Rays possibly have best pitching in AL

Im more worried about the rays than the soxes.

I think they have a good shot. Great starting pitching, and if they can get solid production from the bats (kind of a middle of the row offense last year) then they can take it to the Yanks for the division title.

If Longoria can stay healthy, they should be significantly better... Pena gives them more pop at 1st...
The rays actually spent a little money in free-agency this offseason... the bullpen is still the quesiton mark.

As wide open a race as I can ever remember. I agree about Maddon, guy gets the most from his guys year in and year out.

They'll definitely compete for it, and no doubt, they've got the talent to get a playoff spot easily.

I would easily say the Rays are the favorites to win the East this year. That is coming from a Sox fan. Their pitching is too good to not win the East this year.

I agree, I think they will win the East. Hopefully a healthy Longoria, a full season of Desmond Jennings, Pena back and some other nice additions like Luke Scott to go along with a great starting rotation.

Anybody else tired of the Rays playing the underdog role? It was cute the first year, but not anymore. They have been one of the best teams in MLB for five years now.

^^^
You could say the same about the Tigers too, team that flew out of nowhere and had the underdog role. Now, they're expected to be one of the better organizations in MLB. Hell, Detroit has been opening up the bank the last 4 years or so too which kind of eliminates any "underdog" associations

The Red Sox will suck booty this year.

Personally I think Rays should be favorites....
They have best pitching in the division...
Yankees and Red Sox have serious issues with health and age of key players....
Rays have a lot of youth and questions about their offense
