The 34-foot-long boats, each powered by three, 300-horsepower outboard engines, will have bulletproof plating and six machine guns apiece, not unlike the river patrol boats the U.S. Navy used during the Vietnam War.
The vessels will be able to operate in as little as 2 feet of water, according to the report, and will work with U.S. Customs and Border Protection to combat drug smuggling coming across the Rio Grande.

Those boats seem a little overboard. I guess Texas has to do it big though.
Badass nonetheless.

Well, DPS did get an extra $110 mil this past session.
If it will help, I'm all for it.

Just seems something like this would be more effective on the Rio Grande
than this with 3 300s.
They could quadruple the fleet size with the smaller ones.

True.
But how'd you like to see that monstrosity rolling up on you while you're paddling an inflatable life raft loaded down with 100 kilos of colombian bam-bam across the river?
I'd also imagine there is a lot more protection offered on the large one as opposed to those relatively open smaller ones. If you could find a deeper smaller one and modify it, then it would be great.
Though I do know CBP uses smaller ones regularly as well, with 3-4 officers per boat with AR's.

Who's the manufacturer? The lines on that boat are extremely similar to a Yellow Fin

Yeah I guess protection is important. Don't want BP agents getting sniped from the Mexico side.

nothing a couple M240Ns can't handle.

This article has some more info about them. Said they'll be used in Falcon Lake too.
Beware though, Liberal writer.

MrCK- not sure. You know what I know. Though I could probably make a couple of phone calls and find out, I'm not that concerned. Haha
Slick- people on the Texas side wake up all the time with bullet holes in bricks, etc. from shots fired on the Mexican side. It's insane down there.

Yeah I've been watching some shite on it.
I wish we would re-direct some of the entitlement money to stopping this shite.
We should send a couple of these their way...

That guy has no fricking idea how Texas' budget works.
Does he realize if this helps crack down on smuggling and immigration, there will be more funds available for pub ed,etc?
God that guy's a fricking hack. His comparisons are out of control.

I checked a few message boards and Yellowfin seems to be the answer.

Had some good info about the boats, but it was surrounded by liberal propaganda.

Yeah. Not-so-thinly veiled.
I don't know how the Occupy Austin movement in any way tied into what he was talking about.
