Is a cedar fence worth the premium over a pine fence?

I've heard double, if not more.
But I've also heard cedar will outlast pine as well.

I saw cypress at Home Depot the other day for $2.79 a board. I don't know how the price or quality compares to what you would get from a fence supply place...

I think cedar is pretty comparable in price, maybe a little more.
I just want some thoughts/opinions on if the premium over pine is worth it or not.

My HOA in Houston neighborhood requires cedar which sucks b/c I put up treated pine and now they are making me remove it. Tried to stain it with Thompson's water sealant w/ cedar stain and they rejected it. We have an HOA bitch who stalks the neighborhood looking for anything wrong.

Out of curiosity, how'd it look after you used the sealant/stain?

If in BR, go to Scotts fence.
Get cypress.

What kind of miserable human being notices these things?
I couldn't live somewhere with an HOA. I hear too many horror stories.
