the assembly center lost some of its aura when they cut the student section's seats. all for money.

2009 Vandy game.. senior night

LSU fell way behind and came all the way back to tie it.

That was the loudest I've ever heard the PMAC when Vandy had the ball after we tied it up. We did end up losing..

Late 70s you needed to line up in the afternoon to get in first. Beating Ky when all 5 starters was great. In 1979 winning our first conference championship in 25 years was amazing.

Absolute Truth. The Loyola Marymount game was surreal. I think it was Foot Locker that advertised a shoe discount for every point LSU scored over 100. LSU racked up 148 , so 48% off merchandise in store. I think other stores advertised specials like this as well.

Shaq and Chris Jackson....

Before that: High C. (Howard Carter) and Ricky Blanton.

The loudest times I've seen personally was the Mitchell Davis saga.

Feb 24, 1980 against KY. We beat them at KY earlier in the season, they were in PMAC for a rematch and ended up beating us by 2, i think Kyle Macy made the last bucket. For those too young to have been around, it started on Feb 22, with the miracle on ice. students were camped out at the PMAC and we were full of vim an vinegar cause we beat the ruskies. it just carried over to the whole weekend, more USA, USA chants than LSU chants.

many games come to mind during Daddy Dale's run, esp with Shaq and Chris Jackson. Deaf Dome had a loud meter that was almost always fully light up & pegged out. I remember Mike would always enter the stadium pregame and propel down from the ceiling rafters. Place was just electric all the time. You always have to enter through the maze of tents students set up to camp out for the games.

A couple of KY games come to mind, TN one year when Jackson broke the scoring record, and also when Duke came to town.

My old self may be starting to reminisce a little . . .

If you need a reminder (and a great read) about what it was like in during the Dale Brown years, read through this - Dale Brown could inspire anyone at anytime, including the fans.

Obviously. Afterall, last game 600 LSU students showed up out of the 1500 alloted student tickets.

Can you blame them? Seems like the only way you get more than 100 students is to be really good or have a priority point game. At least now they can guarenteed big surcharges on the tickets that used to be student seats since those are all sold as season tickets. I seriously doubt the student section would have moved if more students had showed up to games. Students just dont care anymore and they werent going to games long before they were moved behind the goal

went to both of these. this was when i was in school.

no bball experience has ever come close to comparing to that Loyola-Maramount OT game. Epic. LSU had 65 rebounds in that game.

How about the lowest basketball game at LSU – not just the PMAC?

I was there when the Pistol played Kentucky in the old Cow Palace. The crowd noise had the ceiling hanging lights swaying and one actually fell from the ceiling into the student area – about 30 feet from where I was sitting.

Since the Loyola Marymount game seems to be so popular let me throw a few tidbits out there off the top of my head.

Do yall remember Hank Gathers shooting the bird at the student section? Man we were going nuts.

That day Gathers set a record for the most points scored by an opposing player in PMAC history. I believe it was 48. I would think it still holds today. This was an incredible feat considering he was 6'8" and Shaq and Roberts were 7' plus.

As you know Hank was dead 2 months later. I never forgot that preformance by him.

I recorded the game on a VCR and unfortunately they missed the first 6 minutes because the prior game ran over. Those 6 minutes were probably the best 6 minutes of Shaq's freshman year. He swated everything in the building.

Some of the womens games versus UT with augustus and fowles were loud, packed, and crazy! My guess is in the last decade the women have had more games like that than the men. Hopefully we are building to change that!!!
