A buddy of mine just called and his lab has got heartworms again. The pills just aren't working against these mosquitos. You need to get them the twice a year shot.

My lab has heart worms right now. She was on once a month pill. We are going for slow kill treatment b/c we have no way to confine her, which is what you have to day when killing heart worms with the injections.

I had a lab that was on Heartguard. She got heartworms and the vet said that Heartguard would pay for the treatment to get rid of them. It took six months for them to agree to that. We took her to the vet and one broke lose and caused her to have a stroke in the waiting room of the vets office and we had to put her to sleep. The really sad thing she was only 3 and 1/2

I know of several people who's labs have gotten heartworms while taking the pills.

We started giving ours a heartworm treatment for cows & hogs. The vet recommended this it's called Ivermectin worming. We get it at a feed store.

We have also starting spraying around the house with Listerine. Works great when having people over for a cooking.

My oldest gyp has them. Same story with the pill. My youngest has been on the 6 month shot and she is free and clear. Both will be on shot as soon as I get the worms out of the older dog. My dogs are 3 and 2.5

I had to get my dog treated also! Vet told me that these worms are getting immune to the heartguard! I've had mine on the shot since we got him cleared up and had no problems. It's cheaper and you don't have to remember to give it to them every month! Heartguard didn't offer to pay for my treatment! Cost me about $700

What hartworm medicine are people having trouble with?

I use comfortis and it's not cheap so I'm hoping it's not one of the problem ones.

Our vet told us to take our dog off of heartgard. He said there is a strain of heart worms that is resistant to ivermectin.

Comfortis is not related to heartworms at all...it's flea/tick medication.

So yeah, that's gonna be a problem for you.

One of my dogs became positive on Heartgard. I've switched them both to Trifexis and no issues yet.

Oops, think he is on heartguard. Comfortis is for his fleas. Mixed the names up. A night on bourbon st. drinking can do that to you.

I'll have to switch the medicine for his heartworms it looks like.
