Yeah, not Bourne. Apparently the Director wanted to do the film and Damon didn't want to right now so they're going ahead with another agent. Director said he's open to Damon joining back into the next film, so I guess they're just leaving his character open right now.

Ludlum wrote the original books years ago. They've ran through all his material already. Not sure if this is based on a different book or not though

anyone ever read the Bourne novels? Is it worth checking out after having seen the movies?

I have read all the Ludlum Bourne books (and all of his books).
They are great reads, you should check them out.
However, don't expect a lot of ties to the movies beyond the central plot point (amnesiatic assassin).
