Bay boat choice?

Starting to consider a bay boat purchase, or something with similar shallow water capabilities. I have fished from Whalers and Blue Waves, but that is about it. Love them both. Our old Montauk would go damn near anywhere as would my buddy's Blue Wave. I do like the new Mako CC, not the Skiff though
What are some of the OB's favorites? Cost, pros/cons?

Probably under 20k for whole rig. Obviously looking used, can't do new at this time.

Don't listen to jsmoke. he doesn't recommend bay boats. he recommends speed boats that you could fish out of

I can also recommend a good landing net if you are looking for 1.

Where do you want to fish it predominantly? If you're gonna hold up in the marsh you need a flats skiff type hull. If you ever plan on touching Lake Ponchartrain waters you'll need a heavy bay boat hull.
I would say that a bay boat w/ a heavy hull and a jackplate is very versatile for SE Louisiana.

Hey, know what I need? A weigh bag. Something to carry fish from boat to camper. Know anything in the $50 - $100 range?

Well, this will primarily live its life down in the middle Keys. So, shallow to medium water, mangroves/canals that type of stuff. Don't envision getting into the "deep sea" scene, although it would be nice to fish wrecks a bit offshore....

IDK how the wave action is down there, but if it gets rough you might want something with some weight to it. Dont the guides down there only run flats skiffs?
The boat above is a 24 Bay Scout w/ a 225 Yamaha 4 stroke w/ a jack plate.
We get in 12" water all the time. And its the smoothest bay boat to cutting waves that I've ever ridden in.

You are right, which is where I am torn...prolly don't want/need a pure flats skiff, but something like you mentioned and with some arse end to it.
thanks

I've only ever fished out of an old 18.5' Cajun CC, and a 17.5 aluminum G3 CC...so my opinion is probably pretty crappy...but then again, most here will nominate whatever they own...so that's what I did
Love our Blue Wave though...rides great (and dry), has tons of storage and just an overall good, versatile boat. Though if you're going to be fishing the Keys, I'm pretty sure most people down there run those flats boats, wouldn't imagine they run too good in the chop though.
