Should I be proud of my 9th grader getting a red card in HS district playoffs?

They were getting beat up by a top seed and she had enough when the other team took out one of our forwards. The yellow card was given after she put an elbow happy mid on the ground. The red when she intentionally slammed into their striker to prevent a score with under 2 minutes to play.
This was the only red card the team got for the entire season. I was proud of her having enough and fighting back but am unsure of soccer ettiquette & how much of a big deal good or bad to make of it.

Yes. Better if straight red, but acceptable.
Hey Bullfrog. Is this your first post on the Gay Board?

Sounds like it did not really matter much. Technically, it could be a classless move in any sport, somewhat like what Bynum did to Barea in the playoffs last year, but it does not really bother me.

Yes. Please don't tell anyone. I've never done this before. Haha

Without seeing the play, it's hard to say. If the red was given because she was the last defender.... meh.... shite happens. If she went in with the sole intention of "taking the striker out", that's a different scenario.
I'm as big of an a-hole as you'll find on a soccer field. I slam into people, tug jerseys, clip ankles.... basically every dirty Central American thing you can think of, I've done. Probably twice...
....and I've never been red carded.
At any point, you HAVE to know your boundaries. If the card could have been avoided, that's ALWAYS the better way to go.

Nah. The final result was never in doubt. They got beat by a more experienced team but they got beat up physically pretty bad too. All the bruises are badges of honor this morning in her opinion.

This was the case. The ref were cool about it after the game.

So far, no signs of flannel wearing.
Just an athletic tough, fast kid.

In light of your good sense of humor.. I vote you can stay on the soccer board whenever.

I agree. Bullfrog welcome. The rest area is just ahead. Pull over.

Hell, my team in high school set two district records my junior year: most red cards in a game, and most red cards in a season. Record still stands.
We had to hold a fund raiser just to pay the fines.
Good for her. Sticking up for your team is not something to be ashamed of.

You're alright with me...but I'm going to the OT right now and telling.
Welcome aboard, not tons of talk outside the professional and international levels here, but it's easily the most informed board on TigerDroppings...because either you love soccer or hate it...so there are hardly any wannabe geniuses on here. Note, I said hardly...
