After Claiborne this year, who is LSU's next top 5/top 10 overall draft pick?

best bet is probably one out of Sam Montgomery, Eric Reid, and Tharold Simon
I would go with Montgomery since DE is such a coveted position for teams in the draft, but Simon has showed some great flashes this year. He has all the earmarks to potentially follow Peterson and Claiborne's leads from the past couple years...

All of these guys possess top 10 potential IMO
Simon
Reid
Montgomery (Probably 10-15 range IMO)
Mingo (Since the 1st game of this year, I've thought he has the best chance to be a top-5 guy on our team besides Claiborne. He's Von Miller, but longer and potentially more overall athleticism.)

I think Tyrann will have an even better year than last year. Especially against the easier opponents that we'll face. He'll be the next top 10 draft pick.
Oh yeah, and book it too.
ETA: Montgomery will be drafted before Simon.

I def agree with Montgomery. Some analysts had him graded higher than Quinton Coples from UNC this year and he is a top 10 pick in the draft.
Also think that Mingo could be a top 10 pick. His size and skill set could be the type that could cover the Jimmy Graham's and Gronks. I think Mingo could be the 1st of this new breed of player. DE size with DB speed. He has the highest ceiling of all the players on our roster.
Simon has amazing potential being 6'3 with smooth fluid hips. Like what i saw from him this year but i need to see some more of him before i can call him a top draft pick.
I dont see Eric Reid being a top 5-10 pick, but I dont see him dropping past 20. Itll depend on who needs a S because he will be a top 3 FS coming out.
I havent seen enough of him yet, but the Freak Johnson just seems like a special player.
These are all D players too. Offensively i think Faulk could be a 1st rounder OL. La'el Collins?? Hilliard??

Mathieu won't be a top 10 pick IMO. He's a game changer, but his coverage skills at this point are a question mark for a top 10 pick. He could certainly improve the rest of his time here though and become a top 10 pick.
I'd say Montgomery as of now.

Agreed. But, NFL people love game changers and I could see someone taking Tyrann early based purely off his play making ability.

Our next one?
Probably Freak.

Mingo is good guys, but not in the same class as Von Miller. Very few have ever dominated like he did. With very little talent around him he still dominated against double teams. With Sonic Sam on the other side Mingo gets alot of one on one mathups with teams number two tackle. Freak will go very early

Mingo
Von Miller only had 5.5 sacks through his first 2 years.
Mingo has 10.5
just saying

I agree. Pass rushers are at such a premium in the NFL and he has proven he has the ability to hit the QB. He is a freak athlete who is still filling into his frame.

Mingo gets double and triple teamed all the time.
The tape don't lie!

But that one play where mingo got back there untouched means Montgomery is always picking up his slack...
Just like how Claiborne is only so good because Peterson picked up his slack...

Top ten has a lot to do with WHO is picking. However I think the players coming out of LSU with the highest pro grades will be in order:
1A. Simon - it's a combination of a couple things. His measurable will be great as long as he times well in the running. he is going to play the money CB position in our defense. he has graded out as well or better than PP and Mo in the playing time he has gotten. he will benefit from the legacy in front of him. CBs with length and speed who can really cover well are not common and will always go higher than most.
1B. Mingo - he is the prototype for a 3-4 OLB in the NFL. He would have gone in the 1st this year. A very good college DE that will be a total badass in the NFL. he will get the attention of the folks who like college production players AND those that like measurables.
2. Reid - two words...Hybrid Safety. He can hit and he can cover. If he runs well he be a 1st rounder.
3. Montgomery - I am afraid he is a tweener in the NFL. I don't think he is as able to move to OLB as Mingo. There are successful guys at his size at DE in the NFL but they are mostly pass rushing guys like Dumervil and the Colts DEs. I think a team that plays a defensive system like that might take him in the first, but he might drop more than most think.
4. TM7 - I think projecting is way tougher than we think. The question will be: How much does his production outweigh his small stature? On the one hand he can play exclusively slot corner in the NFL. It's a passing league and he won't asked to cover outside receivers as much. On the other hand...he is a small guy for an every down nfl corner. I know there have been small successful corners...Tyrone Poole comes to mind...bunt not a lot of them. I tend to think he will be successful...but a late 1st or 2nd round pic.

if mingo and montgomery continue to be elite pass rushers, they will go very high. guys that can get sacks just go high, period
eric reid is a hell of a player, but safeties dont typically go that high, so we'll see
hard to tell on guys like tharold simon or freak johnson right now

I think he is over-rated. He is a solid B caliber CB that is certainly a good contributor. Nothing wrong with a solid B corner in the SEC, but to mention him in this thread seems ridiculous.
