They're more common than you think. It's just hard to see them in the dark. Plus they don't make much noise gliding from tree to tree.

My aunt has some living in her oak tree behind her house. Its funny to watch them swoop around. They've gotten used to people and will pop out at night when were watching the game on the outdoor tv and drinking beer. She feeds them all kinds of stuff. I had no idea they liked eggs though.
