Anyone have any good suggestions on where to get a good set of kitchen knives that isn't terribly expensive (I'll spend up to $100)? The 2 I've owned were given to me, and were pretty freaking crappy. Something like this is what I have in mind:

$100 is kind of a no mans land for knife sets

I would either spend $50 on a nice victorinox chef's knife and paring knife or spend $200 and get a decent Wusthof or Henckels set.

I have a set of Shun knives that I really like but I think they were a little more expensive(they were a gift)

Don't waste money on a set.

Start with a good Chef's/French knife and paring knife. Any of the well known brands (Global, Shun, Wusthof, Henckel, etc.) are fine, but it's important that you handle as many as possible to find what fits your hand best. Invest in the appropriate steel for that knife as well.

You are talking Ronco at that price level. Go to Fantes.com and check out what they have to offer.
