Good movie. Worth the watch, but not worth all the hype.

3 out of 5 stars

Yeah read the book first, I encourage unabridged, but the one thing the movie doesn't emphasize enough to me is how big of an impact Bill James was on all of that. The movie was still fantastic, just bill James really was the foundation of everything Billy Beane and Paul DePodesta (Peter Brand in movie) set out to do.

I enjoyed the movie

and the importance of bill james was clear to anyone who paid attention to the movie... well, at least to anyone who had heard of bill james (because they mentioned his name and credited him... and included a scene or two where people were running his ideas down)

I can see how someone who isn't a big baseball fan would leave the theater without remembering who bill james was... but that is ok, it is more of a movie about a guy and his family in a baseball world than it is a movie about baseball sabermetrics

I'm a mild baseball fan and enjoyed the hell out of it.
Good movie even for non baseball fans as well though.

They killed what Hudson, Mulder, and Zito did more by not even mentioning them.

Thats the knock on Beane, those 3 guys were awesome, and most of the guys that Beane brought in haven't done shizzat, and he passed up a ton of good players in draft over the years.
